What a horrible experience! I wanted to support this local black owned business so I brought my family here to celebrate my birthday. Firstly, we were surprised by a creepy doll right at the entrance... But also, that the food laid out buffet style was being served more lunch line style. We were told to pick items, which we did... Well it was downhill from there. To the point tho, THE FOOD WAS NOT GOOD. The meat was tender for some of us but half of us had dry chicken & flavorless sides... We had to drown it all in hot sauce, even the children used hot sauce to flavor their macaroni and cheese! My father was so upset he spit out something he tasted and pushed away his plate. At some point the owners came out and my mother was able to express her concerns, even demonstrating how dry and hard the cornbread was by knocking it on the table... The owner also introduced his wife & made a big fuss about how sorry he was & how they intended to replace the untouched food with a better meal at a later date. (3/29/25) My mother spoke with the owner the night before we were to return to the restaurant for the "better experience" he promised us, we confirmed a time & arrived the next evening to a COMPLETELY CLOSED restaurant!... No message or note in the window! Nothing! No answer to the calls! The grill outside wasn't even hot like it had been on. This place was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL with how we were handled! Because this man KNEW my family was coming from HESPERIA for THIS! They came up the first time for my BIRTHDAY but to waste the gas and time & invite people out this far of a drive & just be CLOSED?! Who does that?! I couldn't be more disappointed! I understand the average customers don't mind bland tasteless food so that's paying the bills... But why disrespect your OWN in such a way?? Disgusting behavior, hideous decor that scared my kids by the way & THE FOOD WAS NASTY as mentioned above. I won't be back, can't wait for the replacement to open up!! 🥰👏🏽

I am personally familiar with southern and soul food having been raised southern. This IS GREAT southern home cooking!! Admittedly, not all options are available every day, but I can guarantee you will find something delicious regardless of what day you visit! I was told by the very personable server Shawn, that Sunday's are their busiest day, so do what you will with that information. We came in on a Saturday night around 6 and it was not very busy. I had the incredibly tender and perfectly smoky beef ribs, greens you can taste the generations of experience in, and candied yams that melted in my mouth. Hubby had fried catfish, life changing lima beans (seriously! I must learn how to make these now) and wonderfully crispy fried okra. Its been too long since I've had this level of country cooking and I am SO happy we took a chance. Thank you to the owner Mr. Hen, his lovely wife and our server Shawn (and anyone else in the kitchen I may not have met) for a perfect down home experience. Do yourself a favor and try this little slice of heaven, you'll return just like we plan to!

We ordered over the phone and didn't like the quality so we decided to give the restaurant a call and to our surprise the owner answered we told him our concerns and he said that he can make it right. I loved the enthusiasm and passion that he had for the food quality to be perfect. He asked what can he do better. We had the collard greens and baked beans with smothered cubed stake. Although the stake was dry and the greens were plain when we had arrived at the restaurant Antonio (the owner) showed everything he had on the menu. He served my husband and I the oxtail and various sides. ( Mac and cheese, baked beans, black eyed beans and cornbread) He told us his story of being ex military and longed for soul food when he was stationed in the West Coast. He definitely brought the flavor of soul food and that beautiful southern hospitality to our small town of Barstow! If your a traveler or a resident that hasn't tried this quite restaurant with loud flavor make it on your bucket list. My family thanks you! We'll never forget the hospitality and the yummy food!!!

During my recent visit to Southern Twist in Barstow, I had the pleasure of indulging in a variety of their Southern comfort dishes, each leaving a lasting impression on my palate.

Pork Ribs: The pork ribs were a highlight of the meal, showcasing a perfect balance between tenderness and flavor. The meat effortlessly separated from the bone, indicating meticulous slow-cooking techniques. The ribs were enveloped in a rich, smoky barbecue sauce that provided a harmonious blend of sweetness and tang, enhancing the natural savoriness of the pork.

Mac and Cheese: The mac and cheese epitomized comfort food at its finest. The pasta was cooked to an ideal al dente, enveloped in a creamy, velvety cheese sauce that offered both richness and depth. The dish was finished with a subtle golden crust, adding a pleasant textural contrast to the creamy interior.

Collard Greens: The collard greens were a delightful accompaniment, prepared with evident care and traditional Southern flair. The greens maintained a tender consistency, infused with a savory broth that hinted at smoky undertones, possibly from the inclusion of ham hocks or smoked turkey, imparting a depth of flavor that was both hearty and satisfying.

Oxtail with Rice: As a newcomer to oxtail, I was thoroughly impressed by this dish. The oxtail pieces were braised to perfection, resulting in succulent meat that was rich and flavorful. The accompanying rice served as an excellent base, absorbing the savory gravy and complementing the robust flavors of the oxtail. This generous gesture by the owner not only introduced me to a new culinary delight but also exemplified the warm hospitality that Southern Twist embodies.

Atmosphere: The ambiance of Southern Twist is inviting and reflective of true Southern hospitality. The décor exudes a rustic charm, creating a comfortable and relaxed dining environment. The staff were attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. The owner’s personal engagement with patrons, sharing stories and ensuring satisfaction, added a personal touch that elevated the visit beyond just a meal.

In conclusion, Southern Twist offers an authentic Southern dining experience, with each dish prepared with evident passion and adherence to traditional recipes. The combination of delectable food, warm atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine Southern comfort...

Review: A Taste of Southern Hospitality with Superior Service

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you're looking for an experience that embodies the essence of Southern hospitality, look no further! I recently had the pleasure of visiting [insert establishment name], and I can confidently say that the service here is nothing short of superior.

From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine friendliness. The staff made me feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer. They took the time to engage in conversation, asking about my day and sharing their own local recommendations, which added a personal touch to my visit.

The attentiveness of the staff was remarkable. My server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered thoughtful suggestions that perfectly matched my tastes. It’s clear that they take pride in their work, and it shows in every interaction. Drinks were refilled promptly, and the timing of the courses was impeccable—never rushed, yet never left waiting.

The ambiance of the place also reflects that charming Southern vibe. With rustic decor, cozy seating, and a welcoming atmosphere, it felt like home. The attention to detail in both service and environment truly sets this establishment apart.

Now, let’s talk about the food! While this review focuses on service, I must mention that the culinary offerings were equally impressive. Each dish was a delightful representation of Southern cuisine, bursting with flavor and made from high-quality ingredients. It’s clear that the chefs share the same dedication to excellence as the service staff.

In a world where good service can sometimes feel like a rarity, [insert establishment name] stands out as a beacon of what true hospitality should be. The combination of superior service and the warmth of Southern folks creates an unforgettable experience that I can’t wait to revisit.

If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. You’ll leave not only with a full belly but also with a heart warmed by the kindness of Southern hospitality. Highly...
