It has taken a day to digest our experience. They took over the old Momas BBQ. The place where I would take my kids for breakfast before school sometimes. The couple that have this place now know what they are doing. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special. This is a locals' place. We ordered at the counter from a menu that has the owners' pictures on it. And YES, they were working. We saw an order of Catfish and Grits go out. The catfish looked to be cooked perfectly, golden brown and delicious, and it was a large filet and notnthe after thought we see so much. It was a lot of food. We ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, biscuits and gravy, the pacake breakfast (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes) with a side of sausage. The pictures don't do the food justice. OMG good. Tell all of your friends good. Tell your enemies as well. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon was crisp and not paper thin. The bacon has a the perfect thickness. The sausage has really good flavor without being spicy. The pancakes. It takes at least 5 years of cooking breakfast every day in a restaurant to master the art of getting the crispness to the rim of the pancake while aldo having the rest of the pancake be super fluffy. Now for the Biscuits and Gravy. RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!!! The biscuits were crispy top and bottom with a fluffy interior that are a mix of fluffy, well cooked, and still slightly moist. The sausage gravy..... Did not survive our assault. It was everything you want in sausage gravy. Thick enough to cling to the biscuits while still being well cooked so that the flour turns slightly nutty and compliments the sausage. I amost made myself sick trying to finish all of it. How good is this place? This couple comes in, shoe strings a breakfast place together. Uses whatever they can that was already there. AND THEY KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!! And they live in the neighborhood. There is a sticker in the window that says they are locals. While we were sitting there we let friends. And family know about this GEM by teasing them with pics. So yourself a favor. Go today and then go...
Read moreMy friends and I wanted to try this place since it was new. I've heard good things about the "flava" brand. I had their wings at their food truck. There were 12 of us. When we arrived there were a couple of tables of people, but after about 30 minutes the place had quite a bit of people coming and going. The waitress did not look happy to be working. She was a bit short with us while taking our orders. She went around and got all of our orders. My order of pancakes, sausage, and eggs. They forgot my eggs so I had to ask for them. They did eventually bring them out. Sausage was a little burnt, and tasted like frozen Walmart sausage. Pancakes were ehhh... not fluffy, a bit flat actually. For the price, we could have made better at home. My wife's sausage gravy biscuits did not have any sausage in it and was bland. My son's toast was burnt well. That was just my family of 4. Our friend ordered last, waited 30 minutes and good still never came out. Because of the rush, they may have mixed up the orders or mixed up the tickets or something. We had to go ask about our food. We waved down our waitress and again, she was short with her responses. So my friend decided to cancel her order. The waitress looked surprised that we canceled it after waiting over 30 minutes for breakfast as we watched other people get their orders before hers. It was frustrating. The staff was later apologetic after we asked about the food. But only after we asked to cancel the order. They offered to give us the food without payment, but we were to far upset to even take the food. I love to support local and especially the "mom and pops" restaurants, but it is hard to support when the staff is not as friendly as they should be. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The food was pricey for what ot is and the quality was not high quality. Maybe it was a rough day and they were new. I'm not sure. But unless something changes, this place may not last long. Best of luck to...
Read moreThis place is an absolutely killer hole in the wall that you should definitely visit if you're in the Bartlett area for breakfast.
The food here is absolutely unquestionably outstanding. As someone that doesn't even like grits, I was extremely impressed with their shrimp and grits, so much so I ordered it on the second visit. There's just some sort of magic to the chef and what they do to make such a delicious combination of ingredients. Really pop as a meal. I also found the omelet which I had the first time to be very interesting. This combination of corned beef and swiss really works. I'm sure it's a thing, but it was the first time I think I've ever had it, and it was awesome.
While I did believe the food to be excellent, there were some issues. For one, the location isn't exactly great and they should invest in a better one at some point. The interior could also use some work in some respects especially with the seating which was not always in the best condition. Two, the prices are pretty high. The food is great, don't get me wrong, but what two people ended up paying for breakfast is a bit obscene in my opinion. The add-ons are also not very great value for how much you get, especially the hash browns. Three, the drink selection's not the best. The machine also didn't seem to work. The tea also does not appear to be brewed. The coffee itself, however, was pretty good.
All in all, if you're on a trip or if you work around here and you don't mind spending a little bit more, this is definitely a great place to check out. The service was excellent. The people there are really great and stand up. No complaints with them. Really good little spot. I think with some added work on the interior and perhaps a little bit lower prices, it would honestly not be a bad daily driver for your breakfast needs. I do wish the best for those working there. They all seem like really...
