[Edit 2: from 1 star to 5 stars] I am leaving my former reviews in this message to convey my full journey with this restaurant, if you have time it is worth it. Tonight, nearly two years after the original posting I went back to las playitas. What a turn around! I have never boosted a rating the way I have with this restaurant. The service was excellent. The staff flowed together as a team, assisting one another and smiling and laughing along with each other as they served their tables. The food was great and well portioned. We were served promptly and our drinks never reached the bottom, nor did any of those around us. Truly a transformation from clustered mess to well oiled machine. I said before that I would never be back and now I am pleased to eat my words along with an incredibly delicious meal.
[Edit] Boosted up from 1 star to 3 because within two hours of posting this review the owner reached out via email to apologize and ask how he/she could make it up to me. I am not requesting anything from him/her as I honestly do not plan to go back. All that said, I applaud them for being on top of their public image and desiring to make things right. The owner clearly cares about this business and I believe took this review to heart. My experience could possibly be a fluke and I believe they will try to make this place better going forward.
[Original Review]We waited half an hour before we even met our waitress. I sat for 20 minutes waiting for "fresh tea to brew." We were brought cheese dip with no individual bowls and after complaining about not getting bowls we were told they needed to be washed... never got the bowls, even after the table beside us got chips with salsa and (you guessed it) individual bowls. After exactly 54 minutes we were served food and the order was partially wrong and one of our party did not even get his food for another five minutes when someone from the kitchen brought it out. Everyone was nice, but nice does not make up for an hour to get food and absolutely scatter-brained and pitiful service. I will never be back. Go to Mi Ranchito over by Walmart; it tastes exactly the same. I have never wanted to dine...
Read moreOrdered online. Went to pick it up and 3 bags were sitting on the counter, one was clearly ours. We thought it would be wrong just to grab it and go, so we waited. My girlfriend deals with stuff in public because I have severe hearing loss. She was trying to flag down the staff but they ignored her. The third waitress walked by and literally put her hand up and turned away. Someone finally gave us the food. Determined not to let it ruin our night, we went home to have dinner and a movie on a night sans children. I asked how much it was. $45!!! For two small entrees and some chips and queso. I was still keeping my cool...until we started eating. The description is what I'd call "garden variety," and that's being nice. If I wanted to be honest, I would say that it is on par with something I would get at Taco Bell. But, at least Taco Bell doesn't have stale tortilla shells. We are not going to waste our time or money at this...
Read moreEdit - came back 2 days later because it's so good. Got the birria quesadilla today ... Holy cow it was awesome! Not on the menu, but ask for them. Delicious! 3 for $12. I think they come with rice and beans, but I did but want them.
Wow, great experience at Las Playitas! I wish I had this place at home. Started out great with a huge basket of chips and salsa in the little vase thing so I can pour out more. Ordered a la carte 2 beef soft tacos and 1 chimichanga. Normally I order 2 tacos, but the chimichanga was such a great price a la carte that I had to try it. Boy I'm glad I did! It was very tender chicken and juicy. Probably the best chimichanga I've ever had. Then the tacos were absolutely huge. Very unexpected but very grateful and they were delicious. You definitely need to try this place out and I plan on coming back even though I'm only in town a few days. Staff was great, and prices were really great! All my...
