TLDR: cute modern coastal atmosphere with bar area with slightly subpar service and huge miss on a couple food items (including moldy bread).
Ok so it is SUPER cute walking in. Decor in a modern clean coastal vibe. Went for lunch around 1230 on a Monday. Was not busy at all. A few pros, quite a few cons.
Service was lacking. Waitress was nice but I found myself continuing to have to look for her and grab her attention. It’s a lunch on a week day and I came in my scrubs. I think it’s pretty clear I’m on a work break and want to be in and out within an hour. We had to wait quite some time after finishing our food before I found her and got her attention. She was also not super familiar with the menu it seems like (detailed below under food part of review). Cute bar area to sit and have a cocktail I’m sure although I did not drink.
Food- some hits and also some big misses. Crawfish cakes were good with nice spicy. The cakes were hot, fresh, crunchy breading. I would order this again. We ordered the Thai spicy salad- terrible and hugely disappointing. It consists of what looks like shredded carrots and purple cabbage from a bag in a very light dressing and served with 6 slices of cucumber for $15. The reason why I say the vegetables must be from a bag is because the cut edges of the cabbage was starting to brown from oxidation. This happens a lot with bagged cabbage, and storage. If it really is cut in the restaurant, it is a sign that the cabbage is old, probably because I imagine that nobody ever orders this dish. Both carrots and raw cabbage is quite fibrous and this dish has absolutely no balance of texture. It would be different if the carrots were more like thin ribbons or something to change it up. The dressing was very thin and overall quite flavorless. Waste of money, legit one of the worst salads I’ve ever had in my life. We also ordered the lobster roll. Now I asked the waitress if the lobster roll is hot or cold. My mom typically doesn’t like cold sandwiches and since we are splitting everything, I wanted to make sure. Waitress said it was hot, however the roll is cold. It’s not necessarily a problem that the lobster is cold, we were just told incorrectly and so our expectations were different. Good meaty texture with big pieces of lobster in the poached lobster salad. The only thing was the bottom part of the pistoullette bread had a round geeen spot of mold on it. I don’t freak out about that stuff bc it’s mostly harmless anyways. But makes me wonder about quality and sanitation in the back. I sent it back and the chef sent out another one. The waitress said that the chef was firing it up and sending it out immediately. However it did take almost 10 to 15 minutes before it came back out, which I’m not sure why it took that long if they were trying to get it out quick and it is a cold roll on toasted bun.
Wanted to love this place as it is close to work, fell quite short of its 4.5 star review expectation. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but the the salad was so terrible (not just subpar) that it makes me question...
Read moreLast Tuesday I brought my parents to eat dinner at Beausoleil Coastal Cuisine and we are glad we arrived early as the place filled up fast around us! To start us off, Dad had the lobster bisque, which he stated was the best he had ever had, and in no way tasted like the powdered Sisco product most places serve. Mom enjoyed the french onion soup which was a rich cheesy bowl of (in her words - LOL) yummy gooeyness. I had thought I would skip the first course so I didn't really look over that part of the menu, but when my parents ordered their soups, the server suggested I try the House Salad, which I assumed would be the usual iceberg lettuce with a couple pieces of tomato and cucumber; instead I received a gastronomical delight of (per their menu that I reviewed again later) spring mixed greens, shaved fennel, spiced pecans, ash-cured carrots in an apple+pear vinaigrette (I really hate the taste of vinegar but I couldn't taste even a hint of it - whoohoo!), but I decided the best part was the fried goat cheese, which was absolutely OMG-delicious! (At first I thought it was a hushpuppy due to its color and size, but when I sliced into the crispy coating with my fork, the "creamier than cream cheese" consistency inside said "hello" and I fell in love.) Mom had the shrimp pasta (with really nice sized shrimp), Dad had the HUGE fried flounder sandwich (delish tartar), and I had the HUGE Provencal Chicken; all dishes had enough food on the plate to fill our tummies and each still could have made about a half-plate to-go box, but I had no shame and ate all of mine. The fried food was perfect (of course, I tasted Dad's dish too, again, no shame) - not to heavy on the crust coating and still juicy inside. My fried chicken came with Provencal vegetables including olives, which makes sense as I know Provence is a Mediterranean region of southeast France next to Italy (we still had a hard time trying to pronounce "Provencal" to the server). Unfortunately our full tummies told us we had no room for the dessert options the server offered, but there will be a next time for sure! Our compliments to the owners, managers, chef and staff for the beautiful restaurant, great service, and...
Read moreAbsolutely exceptional! There are more than a few restaurants in the metro area that I would give 5 stars to. Beausoliel, however, would get 6 stars from me. My husband and I are just middle class people with a moderate income. We aren’t”fancy” and we don’t get to enjoy the luxury of fine dining on a regular basis BUT we do, very much, appreciate and enjoy the experience of visiting top notch restaurants to celebrate special occasions 6-7 times a year. Without a doubt, I can say Beausoliel stands out among the best of what Baton Rouge restaurants have to offer. The staff, the atmosphere, the presentation, the quality and the overall experience, all of it is flawless. The fare changes seasonally so you will always be delighted and surprised by the entrees, desserts and craft cocktails. While the menu is a bit pricey, you won’t ever feel it is OVERpriced. Quality doesn’t come cheap and neither does the talent of the amazing chef and staff that plan and prepare amazing food. It is certainly money well-spent and an experience that is thoroughly enjoyable. Tonight we started with a bottle of wine, the ceviche and smoked shrimp sushi. We followed with a medium rare tenderloin and seafood stuffed potato and finished with a delicious craft cocktail and hot chocolate bread pudding. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a single thing- that’s how lovely and perfect it was. And it was just as good the last time we went and I don’t doubt it will be a amazing next time as well. I will finish this with a special shout out to the front of house manager and our server who were both above and beyond what was expected. They made our night...
