First visit here in a really long time. Would maybe give a 3.5 if I could. Overall food was good, but was just a tad disappointed in some things. At a finer dining place such as this I definitely hold food to a high standard, which is fair since it's around 40 to 50 bucks per person.
The chipotle shrimp appetizer was ok, I thought the flavors in the sauce clashed a bit with the shrimp. They were cooked well though. The crawfish bisque had a great flavor but seemed more like a gumbo than a bisque. The crawfish tails were tiny and over cooked. The sensation salads were very disappointing, really no flavor at all. The steak tournedos dish was good but steak was very under seasoned and not as tender as I expected for filet cut. It was cooked properly to medium rare. The lagniappe oysters were outstanding definitely best dish of the night, lots of crab meat in them and oysters were perfectly cooked.
The stuffed potatoes were kind of a joke, it is just a half of a plain baked potato with a piece of what seems like kraft single American cheese melted on it. Not sure how that is considered a stuffed potato. 🤔
The whiskey sour drink I had was very good.
The desserts were mixed. The creme Brule was good, the bananas foster bread pudding was mediocre. It was flat and kind of dry, not very much sauce on it at all, and barely tasted of banana at all. Tasted mostly like cinnamon. I was expecting a traditional, thick, moist bread pudding with bananas foster on top or something of that nature.
Overall a 3 to 3.5 considering the level of dining this place is...
Read moreThis first time dinner at LA Lagniappe will be followed by more, because my experience was mostly "outstandingly" positive. With reservations for 3, we were seated promptly at a lovely white linens-clad table, with wait staff quickly filling water glasses & delivering a basket of freshly baked loaves (2) of French bread. Our Server, Robbie, excelled attending us . . . including his (well-rehearsed) flawless announcement of all the "featured specials" offered tonight, Saturday, February 6, 2025. He brought our drinks, gave us time, answered our questions and efficiently monitored our table's needs. My entree was the Louisianne fish offering with a lump crabmeat topping . . . exquisite, as tasty & flavorful a fish dish as I've ever enjoyed anywhere! The price was a reasonable reflection of the wonderful meal I was served (a little pricey for my retiree's budget, but totally worth it). I'm hesitant to mention a negative, but there were two: The acoustics where we dined were poor, with loudness bouncing around & making conversing a challenge. Secondly, I was surprised to have an added "dual price" charge of $4 added on my $125 bill because I was using a credit card, rather than cash, for payment. (Dual pricing seems a bit tacky in a restaurant of this high caliber, and it's a practice I've not personally experienced before tonight.) Great food and service warrants many...
Read moreParking was a minor challenge. We were seated immediately. My wife and I ordered the traditional dish of Trout Almodine. My brother in law ordered the char frilled tuna. I believe it was topped with both crabmeat and schrimp. My sister in law ordered the barbecue schrimp. All entrees come with a sensation salad( it is Baton Rouge ) and twice baked potato. My wife and her sister substituted brocoli and cauliflower. I should have done the same. Everyone was delighted with the food. I ordered the seafood gumbo without rice. It was more of a white roux base and I added salt to my taste. It was spicy, not hot. It was also filled with seafood, including oysters. My in laws ate the bisque and said it was excellent. Our server forgot to put our appetizer into the kitchen and politely took ownership in the error. Desert was Creme Brulee for me and Blueberry Bread Pudding was split between my wife and her sister. My wife and her sister loved the bread pudding and the Creme Brule was outstanding. Coffee was delicous. Service was attentive, timely, but not overbearing. I found the dining area a little noisy, but two large groups sitting on either side of bgg us could have contributed to the noise. I will return...
