I rarely fill out survey's about hotel stays, but felt very compelled to do so after my stay at Renaissance Baton Rouge. My wife and I were very excited about this weekend getaway, as it was the first time we have been able to have a get away alone since the birth of our two children. We were very excited about a night of relaxing, uninterrupted sleep! I booked a room at the Renaissance due to the good reviews I read on trip adviser, as well as the close proximity to shopping/restaurants. Upon arrival, we found the facility to be clean, well decorated, and beautiful. Unfortunately, at 1:30 am we were awakened by an extremely loud, high frequency noise coming from the air unit in our room. The only way I can describe it was literally finger nails on a chalk board. I took a video of it with my phone and immediately went to the front desk. There was no way we would be able to go back to sleep with the noise. It was so loud, I could hear it in the hallway with the door shut. The front desk attendants told me that maintenance had gone home for the night, and the only option would be to move us from our room on the 12th floor to the 5th floor. I was issued new key cards, and the attendant told me a security guard would come to our room and take the old keys. So I went back to the room and we began packing all of our stuff which took about 30 minutes. The security guard showed up and took our old keys and offered no assistance as we struggled down the hallway with all of our belongings. The hotel staff never offered a cart or anyone to help. By the time we got settled in our new room, it was almost 3:00 am. This was certainly not the relaxing night we had hoped for, and both left very disappointed. All the hotel offered us was two complementary breakfasts, and the difference in room rates (The room we were moved to on the 5th floor was much smaller). I rarely complain about services I receive when it pertains to facility issues, because I am a facility manager at a university for a living, and I understand that things happen. However, I don't feel like the staff went above and beyond to help resolve the issue and assist us in a middle of the night move to a new room. I also feel like two free breakfasts is pretty weak compensation for what we went through. The breakfast was good, but was similar to a free continental breakfast at other hotels. I feel like paying full price for the experience we had was...
Read moreIt's 4 months later and I'm finally writing this review. It was 9 years ago that I stayed at this property for the first time and remember having a nice stay here. 9 years later and I would say it was still a really good stay. I do like Renaissance properties so glad there was one to stay in, in Baton Rouge and is still around. ||The check in was smooth and the people at the front desk are very inviting which to me is important as they are the ones who can kick off a good stay and a bad stay. I was there for business so I like things a little more quiet ie away from the elevator and they accommodated me on that end. |I will also say that I arrived on a Friday before an LSU game so the place was packed so if you like a less crowded hotel, don't go while there is a game happening. Thankfully things were quiet enough that it didn't bother me.||The room was just as I remembered. Since it had been some time since my last stay, it hadn't changed which means it was slightly dated but you would have had to stay there before to know that. The bed was comfortable and everything worked just fine so no complaints there. ||I did have breakfast each morning which was a buffet. I thought it was just the weekend but turned out to be during the week too. I was ready for menu service but was kind of happy that it was a buffet since I was there for work and like buffets since it gets me in and out of breakfast quickly and off to location. The room service menu is nice too. I eat plant based and they had a veggie wrap that I thought was pretty good.A lot of hotel menus lack this so glad I had this option. ||Parking is in a lot. When it's crowded, parking can be a little hard to find but overall no problems. Again, since there for work, it's more convenient than valet service. |The location of the hotel is really good. It's not far from the highway and there are plenty of food options around if you don't want to stay in the hotel. It's not downtown but felt like the area the hotel is in has more options for food and bars. ||Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel if going to Baton Rouge. My stay before this, I was at the Marriott down the highway and found this property...
Read moreMy experience at the Renaissance Hotel Baton Rouge was unsatisfactory. When we arrived, the door arrendant didn’t greet us or ask if he could be of any assistance. I was traveling with my elderly mother and aunt and he saw that we could’ve used a hand. Before getting the luggage out of the car, I went inside to ask for a rolling cart. The concierge informed me that I needdd to ask the door attendant for the cart, so I did. Mind you, he never greeted me before this and when I asked if he had any carts available, his response was “no, they’re all out right now, but you can wait.” I decided to go ahead and check in while I left my mother and aunt outside with our luggage to wait for the cart. While I was gone, another couple pulled up to the hotel at the same time someone was retuning a cart. The attendant immediately greeted them and gave them the cart that had just been returned although he knew we were waiting! He even avoided contact with me as he helped them unpack their luggage onto the cart. In total, we waited about 15 minutes for a cart and only got one because I found one inside of the hotel and rolled it out myself. The attendant never acknowledged this, apologized, and watched as I struggled to unload our luggage onto the cart. He never offered a hand like he’d done for the people who arrived after us. I can’t help but to think this was because they drove a luxury vehicle and were white. Fast forward to our time in the room. The walls were paper thin! I mean so thin I could hear the tv of the room next door to us and I could tell the tv wasn’t loud, the walls were just that thin. I could even hear the person in the phone vibrating in the room next door every time they got a call. Apparently they could hear us too because the next morning, they knocked and asked us to turn down our tv. The tv was not loud at all. Checking out, was difficult too, as there once again were no carts available and the same door attendant was of no assistance. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, ever. The ONLY positive thing I have to say is that the...
