UPDATE 11/2017 I see I received a response from "the owner". Thanks, I guess, but "I'm sorry" and "we do care about our customers" doesn't change a thing. If you cared about your customers you'd do something about my complaints.
YOU HAVE NOT.
Even my kids, who are college students, don't eat there any more for the same reasons I've listed. (No American cheese, poor service with an attitude, stingy on the fries, and so many more reasons. We go to MooYah which is just down the street. They have AMERICAN cheese for my American Cheeseburger AND their meat is fresh, never-frozen and actually cooked the way you like. THAT'S how you serve customers.)
UPDATE 7/2017: My first trip back in many, many months. Still no American cheese for the burger which, considering how many patrons I've spoken with who would like it, is confounding.
I had the waitress speak to the manager about why no American, because for some reason he wasn't willing to speak with me directly (a clear warning sign that they don't care about customers and/or are spineless). She came back and told me he said, "We're a cheddar place." WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?
I get it if that's the only cheese they serve, but they have several others, just not American. What it says to me CLEARLY is management doesn't care what the customers want, which means I won't be spending any money there at all again. Ever.
To make things worse, the meat was dry. Very dry. The large group I went with all said the same thing - their burgers were very dry. That's not going to sell many burgers especially when there are so many wonderful, and better, options nearby.
But if you want a pricey hamburger fixed the way the management deems, run by someone who's too spineless to actually talk to customers and actually listen to them, then by all means go spend your cash. But if, like me, you still believe "the customer is always right" especially when it's their money you rely on, please, PLEASE stay away. There are numerous other, better places to eat managed by people who care about your feedback.
I'm apparently not the only one who feels this way, either. When the place first opened, it was PACKED at lunch. Today, I don't think even half the tables had patrons sitting at them. As far as I'm concerned I hope the trend continues, then maybe someone who cares about their paying customers will buy it out and do it right. A near-perfect hamburger marred by the shocking absence of American cheese as an option. These guys have managed to almost make the Great American Cheeseburger, but without American cheese they fell just short of their goal.
Cheddar is a great cheese, I love the stuff, but it just doesn't have the presence to make a burger that much better. There's something about that perfectly melty, slightly over-salted yellow/orange square of squiggly American that makes a cheeseburger greater than the sum of its parts. It completes a classic combo that's been a part of the American landscape for well over half a century. So I'm sitting here dumbfounded that these folks either don't realize that or don't care.
When they come to their senses and offer American cheese, I'll kick this review...
Read moreThis was our first visit to this restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is nice. The food was delicious and fresh. The service was great. After eating our food, we both said that we couldn't wait to come back here to eat.
So, why the three stars? Because I was nickel and dimed to death. When I got the receipt, our very positive and satisfying experience soon turned to disappointment and frustration.
I was charged $.25 for a few little pickle slices on my roast beef poboy. I did not get the lettuce and tomato on the poboy that it came with. I have never been charged for pickles on my sandwich. Not anywhere. Not ever. And they saved money by me not getting the tomato and lettuce that was included in the price!
I was charged $1.00 for extra gravy. Why did I ask for extra gravy? This is what it says on the menu description of the roast beef poboy, "Don’t be afraid to ask for extra gravy!" So, they suggest asking for extra gravy just so they can make an extra buck without telling you about the upcharge. .
I was charged another $1.00 to get a small dollop of their cream cheese & jalapeno spread. On the menu, you can get a roast beef with mayo, lettuce, tomato and gravy, or for the same exact price, you can get a roast beef with, "Our same homemade roast beef but dressed with Our Mom’s signature cream cheese and candied jalapeno pepper spread." So, according to their menu, the price is the same whether you add the spread to the sandwich or not. I wasn't sure I would like the spread, so I asked the server if she could bring me just a little taste of it on the side when she brought my order out. The spread was very sweet, and I did not like the taste at all, so I was glad I did not get it on my sandwich. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $1.00 for that!!!
It's one thing if I choose to add something to my meal and the upcharges are listed on the menu and/or the server tells me that there is an upcharge. It is entirely another thing when upcharges are hidden. It really puts a bad taste in one's mouth. We were so excited to have found this restaurant near my daughter's college apartment so that we could come back to it when we visit. My daughter talked about wanting to go there with friends and even getting take-out sometimes. But, we are rethinking this because of the ridiculous and deceptive charges.
I am surprised we were not charged for the ketchup we used on our fries or the straw or napkins. I wonder if there are extra charges for take-out containers. I wonder what extra charges there are on the...
Read moreI don’t hardly ever write a “review” of a place I’ve patronized, however after this “dining experience” I just felt it might help someone out there make a better informed decision about where they’re going to spend their time and money. My wife had heard about this place from some Facebook post and so we decided to go give it a try. I sometimes come pick her up at work and take her to lunch when I’m available. Otherwise, going out to eat for dinner is and always has been one of our favorite things to do. So we go to “Our Mom’s” yesterday, (Friday, May 17th), and arrive a little after 1 pm. Although we’re seated immediately (the restaurant wasn’t near full capacity), they put us in the booth all the way in the back. You know the one…it’s the booth that is literally AT the entrance to where the servers are constantly coming and going and, no kidding, is only a few feet away from the bathrooms. How appetizing. Seriously…the absolute worst seats in the house. Okay…no big deal…at least we were seated. And now we had the opportunity to see the other patrons as they came and went to the restrooms… After some deliberation, my wife requested the “Hawaiian” cheeseburger with a water and I chose the “Rockin’ Chicken Sandwich” at the recommendation of our waitress, along with a sweet tea. Well…my wife’s burger is bland and, aside from a single pineapple ring, nothing spectacular about this burger whatsoever. Unfortunately my “sweet tea” was the most horrible excuse for tea I’ve ever had (I only drank half a glass) (oh, and it’s $2.99 for a single glass of “sweet tea” here if you can believe that), and my chicken sandwich was a pitiful excuse for something made in anyone’s kitchen. The chicken is obviously previously frozen, but luckily it was then overcooked to the point of being just a hard, extremely crunchy tasteless piece of what was probably once a decent cut of chicken. I am known by my family and friends for being a generous tipper, sometimes to an extreme, so our young waitress wasn’t aware that my $7 tip was no where near what I typically leave for people who have worked hard at providing a quality dining experience for my family and I. However, $40 for THIS meal and atmosphere was way more than it was worth. To those out there contemplating where to take their family and friends to eat, maybe read some of the other reviews of this business. I don’t usually read reviews myself, I just prefer to give businesses a fair chance. Maybe I’ll start reading reviews...
