Spoke & Hub, located where the old Bistro Byron’s used to be on Government Street, is a delightful addition to Baton Rouge’s restaurant scene. With its bike-themed decor featuring vintage bicycles and charming touches, the ambiance is as inviting as the food. This spot is a must-visit for anyone looking for great meals and even better vibes.
Let’s start with the star of the menu: the croffle. This buttery croissant-turned-waffle is pressed in a waffle iron and served with Steen’s cane syrup—a local delicacy that takes it over the top. It’s the perfect fusion of a croissant’s flakiness and a waffle’s softness. My son, as seen in my photos, is a huge fan, and honestly, so am I. A 10/10 appetizer!
I visited Spoke & Hub twice with my mom and son and had the chance to try several dishes: • Smothered Chicken over Rice (Lunch Special): Comfort food perfection, served with a hearty hunk of cornbread. • Louisiana Hot Brown: A sandwich stacked with chicken, bacon, and ham—rich and flavorful. • Chicken Fingers (Kids’ Menu): House-fried, not frozen, and in generous portions—perfect for little ones. • Hot Chicken Sandwich: Spicy, crispy, and satisfying. • Classic Hamburger: My mom’s choice on one visit, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The sweet tea is also worth mentioning. It’s everything sweet tea should be—full-bodied, sugary, and refreshing.
On my third visit, I celebrated my birthday, and the staff made it special by surprising me with a complimentary slice of cake for dessert. The waiter also recommended a cozy bar behind the restaurant. This small lounge had live music, a packed house, and a fantastic atmosphere—a great way to end the night.
Spoke & Hub has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Baton Rouge. Whether you’re stopping in for lunch, dinner, or their highly recommended brunch (which I’m looking forward to trying), you won’t be disappointed. The food, the decor, and the outstanding staff make it all worth the visit.

Read moreWe arrived Sunday at about noon. Empty tables everywhere. Nearly as many empty as full. But we were told 30-45 minute wait. You can almost forgive that. No one wants to work, and restaurants everywhere are having trouble finding enough staff. We were on our bikes, and had made a trip out of our way (see the long single line to the right, on our ride track) just to eat here, so its hard to go anywhere else. Especially when we will probably find the same conditions. I asked my wife if she wanted to wait at the bar. The hostess barked : "no food at the bar" OK... not what I asked, and I did not ask you, but thanks for interrupting. We sat at the bar. The bartender asked if we wanted water, yes, came right back with water. Then asked, what else to drink, do you want to eat? Eat? why yes. We ordered beers and food. It was 45 minutes to get food after ordering. About the same time as food arrived, we got a text our table was ready. So the 30-45 minute wait for a table was really about 50 minutes. And then... we would have still had to wait 45 minutes for food! Too long! But you can almost forgive that in the current reality we live in, if.... the food was good. It was not. I ordered a breakfast burger, a hamburger with an egg. It was small, thin, tasteless, previously frozen, and probably from the same supplier as McDonalds. But it was not at a McDonalds price. I saw several articles that this bike themed place was coming for probably a year. We got on our bike and rode here. Extremely disappointed is an understatement. 2 stars, only because the...
Read moreGreat food, but I wish they would have had more menu items listed. We went for Mother's Day Brunch and there was a specialty menu for the day I was told. I've never been to the restaurant prior to this visit so I'm not sure how extensive their normal menu is usually.
The service was good aside from a different worker (not our table server) bringing out my meal long before the rest of my hungry family and before the appetizer was brought out. It turned out that the kitchen had plated an extra plate of the same item I ordered by accident for another table and decided to bring it to me. My server (who wasn't made aware of this decision by the kitchen) was cool with me sending it back and having my meal delivered to the table the same time as my family's. It just didn't feel right to eat 20 mins before my 2 young kids.
Aside from that little snafu, the service was good, the food was good, and we definitely plan to return 🥰. My 11 yr old said it's now his favorite restaurant (he and my daughter had the chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream, sprinkles, and cherries). I will say that my 8yr old daughter's pancakes barely had any chocolate chips compared to my son's stack. But the server was kind enough to bring a container of chocolate chips and extra cherries (which they originally forgot for both kid's orders) for them to share.
They were very busy the day we went so I'm going to assume that's why we had a couple of hiccups with our orders. I look forward to dining there again soon at a...
