Big Boy — Restaurant in Battle Creek

My husband loves Big Boy and I am hesitant but after a grocery shopping trip to Meijer we stopped for dinner. We were greeted instantly at the door and taken to our table. The server came over and took our order as soon as our menus were shut. We ordered fish and chips. I was beyond impressed with the food. Crispy hot fish fresh french fries...not cold and soggy and the best cole slaw i have ever had. Our server was sweet and thoughtful. We never sat in dirty dishes or had an empty cup of coffee...and the restaurant was busy!!!! A lady whom I assumed to be the manager was walking through the dining area stopping at every table checking on them. I told her my mind had changed about big boy and we would definetely return. I was even impressed by the clean bathrooms especially with the amount of people that were using them. Hat s off to Battle Creek Big Boy. I hate to admit my husband made a good choice. We have since returned for a meal everytime we go to Meijer. I havent had a hot fudge cake since I was a teenager in Detroit and it was just as good as I remembered it. My wife and I were pretty bummed when this place was rumored to be permanently closed according to the listing on Google a few months back. When she heard that they had opened back up we were both excited to try our old favorites yet again.

We got take out because: Covid. The wife got her usual which is the Slim Jim basket. When I arrived to pick up the order the associate asked the cook for the fries to complete the order and she quickly jammed this half empty pack of "French Fries" into the bag and stapled it shut so I couldn't check my order before I left.

What I brought home to my wife was an abomination. The sandwich looked like either someone sat on it or had already been eaten. There was as much outside the bun as inside and that bun was WET. The tomatoes were hard, white and unripe. Inedible. The fries filled less than half the container and they were soft, floppy, cold, wet and oily. Gross.

Considering the prices of takeout food nowadays you would expect more than this mess.

10/27/22: Tried again after staying away for awhile. Got my order wrong and had a bit of an attitude about it. Anything for...

They got 1 star because we had a pleasant waitress. We got the breakfast bar. For starters, just about everything was empty. The pans that did have food in them, the food was crusty or burnt. Tasted disgusting and barely could stomach 1 plateful. Then, we got a huge shock when the bill was 40.75. WHAT? Over 13 dollars for THAT? I thought for sure there had been some mistake. Then went up to pay and the gal asked how everything was. I told her that I'm sorry but everything was disgusting and definitely overpriced. She went and got a manager who walked up and essentially just stared at me and said nothing. I politely said that the food was terrible and we wouldn't have even thought about getting it for a charge of 13 dollars. Literally the only thing she said after that was, yea we gotta put the price back up on the window. And snatched my money off the counter. I'm not one to ask for my bill to be comped but dang, not even an offer? Not even an apology for terrible quality? Well, it took me about 20 years to go back to try it again....
