My family and I tried Tiffins for the first time because we wanted to take advantage of the 20% discount from passholder days. We ordered Tiffins signature bread service, charred octopus, surf & turf, pan-roasted sustainable fish filet, kids grilled teriyaki chicken thigh (minus the teriyaki sauce) with white cheddar macaroni & cheese, and fresh fruit, and white chocolate-orange crème brûlée. Everything was delicious, and the service was good.
The Tiffins signature bread service came with three different types of ‘bread’ and spreads. The Pão de Queijo was Brazilian cheese bread and came with four of them. The texture was somewhat mochi-like, which I really liked. It was paired with a guava sauce which I didn’t like, but I don’t like guava. The papadam looked like chips that were full of spices and very flavorful. It was paired with a ginger-pear chutney sauce which went very well with it. The Thai red curry milk bread was my favorite. It had the perfect texture, softness, and flavor. It was paired with a coconut-curry sauce which was to die for.
The charred octopus came with sweet corn salsa, chorizo, tequila, mole rojo, pickled onions, and cilantro. The octopus had a nice char on the outside, and was very tender on the inside. It was cooked perfectly, and delicious. Honestly, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the sauce that it came with but I’m not the biggest fan of salsa and chorizo.
The surf & turf came with South African Braai-spiced Beef Tenderloin, Seared Scallops, Truffle Polenta, Grilled Vegetables, Dhania Butter, and Cola Demi-glace. I requested my tenderloin cooked medium rare, and they cooked it perfectly. It was very flavorful on the outside because of the spices, but I wasn’t a fan of the cola Demi-glacé, but I’m not a fan of sweet sauces. It came with three huge seared scallops that were cooked perfectly, and good quality. No sand. The truffle polenta was prepared into two solid blocks that had a good amount of truffle flavor. The grilled vegetables consisted of carrots, peas, spinach, a small onion, and a cherry tomato. Overall, the dish was really good. I would get it again.
The pan roasted sustainable fish filet was corvina that came with Coconut Fried Rice, Green and Red Curry, Thai Green Papaya Slaw, and Peanuts. The fish was tender and cooked perfectly. The coconut fried rice had a strong ginger flavor. The green and red curry sauces were flavorful and good.
The kids grilled teriyaki chicken thigh (minus the teriyaki sauce) had a nice char, and was juicy inside. It was really good. The white cheddar macaroni & cheese was bland and unimpressive. The fresh fruit was honeydew melon, and cantaloupe. I didn’t get to try them because my daughter ate all of them, but they looked perfectly ripe, which I feel is rare to find with melons like that. We also got my daughter the speciality character drink which was Minute Maid® Zero Sugar Lemonade with flavors of Cotton Candy served in a souvenir Character Cup. It tasted just as its description… like cotton candy lemonade, and it was pretty good. The options for character cup were Frozen or Toy Story. I was disappointed that the cup was just a normal kids cup with a design on it. I was expecting it to look like their popcorn buckets or like the orange bird character cup from Epcot.
The white chocolate-orange crème brûlée was my favorite dish, and I’m not a big dessert person. It came with Blueberry Cardamom Curd, Amarula Ice Cream, Orange Chutney, Sellou Cookie, and Ras el Hanout Candy Crunch. The blueberry cardamom curd was really good. The amarula ice cream had a nice flavor with the Ras el Hanout Candy Crunch inside (I think). The orange chutney was terrible. I feel like that didn’t go well with everything else. The sellou cookie had a strong sesame flavor, and was delicious. It was the perfect combination, except for the orange chutney.
Tiffins has made it to my top favorite Disney restaurants. The service is good, and the food is delicious. We can’t wait to go back and try...
Read moreI was offered a chance to go Tiffins. I'm not one to pass up interesting, new food.
First, the atmosphere was very great, and I liked the entire layout of the place. However, I found that the meal was...alright, if the food prices were half of their offering.
Let's start with the Bread Appetiser with Passionfruit Sauce spread. The bread was something like a cinnamon bread, which was nice and soft, and tasted good. However, the passionfruit sauce either was reduced incorrectly, not diluted, or had additional sugar. If you know about Passionfruit, you know that it's incredibly sweet just by its lonesome. Well, this was oversweet, to the point that a tart was less sweet than this sauce. I devoured the bread, but everyone at the table took one taste of the sauce and never added it afterwards.
Moving onto my actual appetiser, the Chef's House-made Charcuterie Board, it was very interesting. I thought I would try it out, because, heck, I like beef boards, and meat assortment boards, and it had Wagyu Bologna, which I didn't understand, but I would try anyways. First of all, the presentation, was alright. It was served on a wooden board. However, the sauces you would think would be more arranged closer to the matching meat, but it was random. Alright, so, let's start with the Speck (top left). The speck was awesome, and I enjoyed it. It was paired with deli mustard, which speck is already has a flavor kick into it already, so I didn't utilize it except for the first taste. The Ethiopian Coffee-Pork Terrine (top right) was interesting, and juicy, but I felt like it was put in a smoker and turned up to 11, which overpowered the juicy flavor almost instantaneously. It was paired with a sweet sauce, which...didn't do much to the smoky flavor. Instead, it was like I put a sugar cube on a meat-flavored cigar. Moving on to the Duck Pastrami Patte...it tasted exactly on how it looks. There was no juice (as I usually expect in duck), and no flavor. The best I can describe it as...mashed cardboard. Lastly, the Wagyu Bologna. I was expecting a flavorful Wagyu beef, but... it tasted like Bologna I could have picked up at Wal-Mart. There was nothing special and the sauce on top did nothing except add a sugary flavor to the beef. I was disappointed. I did like the pickles and bread/chips, though.
Alright, so, moving onto the Main Course, the Wagyu Striploin and House-Smoked Brisket. Its served with Rainbow Carrots, Peruvian Purple Potatoes, Citrus-Ramp Butter, and Guava Demi-glace. The Wagyu Striploin was seared on the top and bottom, with little to no heat applied to the center, as if they skimped on a vital step of putting the beef into the oven to soak in the juices. Also, I could entirely tell this wasn't Wagyu, or at least it wasn't on that quality level. Maybe a Filet Mignon from a normal cow. There was no fat marbling indicative of Wagyu, and it showed. The beef had 100% of its spices on the top (which was almost burnt), with no care made to soak something into the middle, which, for $53, I expected a whole lot more. The House-Smoked Brisket was very tender that it could be pulled apart like it was Fish, which was very juicy and I enjoyed it. The carrots (the best part of the plate) were cooked to perfection, and offered flavor where the Wagyu did not. The sauce it was cooked with tasted like A1. Not knocking on it, but it just tasted like A1... so much for "Guava Demi-Glace."
Moving onto the final course, a Lime Cheesecake... it was a lime cheese cake topped with a Green Tea Sponge. It was good, and I enjoyed it, but, unless you severely screw up, I love Cheesecake. The Almond-Sesame Tuile had a very strong citrus taste to it, which, was cool, but I'm not really into sugar (as evidenced above), so I left it half-eaten.
Overall...I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Wouldn't come...
Read moreI'm giving this 5 stars because it was a nice experience overall. The food...was OK. Let me explain...
We arrived early for our reservation and were told by the app we had to wait 20+ minutes before we could "check in". We asked about getting a quick seat at the bar of Nomad's Lounge and the person at the door sent us to the person at that door to see if there was any availability. There wasn't, but they did offer a pick up and go option for an adult beverage. We waited for a bit at the pickup post and eventually in doing so some seats opened up at the bar. We were able to wait out our time there. Yay for AC.
I know Nomad's has nothing to do with this review - so let's get on with it.
About 15 minutes after our reservation time we were met with Donna - a very nice and pleasant hostess. Great customer service. She seated us and handed us off to Habib who would be our server. He was very busy, as were all the servers but he was on the ball.
The ambiance and décor were very nice. You can't beat being seated in AC in July at one of the parks.
We started off with drinks - First Magnitude Wakulla Hefeweizen Draft - USA $9.25 and my favorite TBBC Old Elephant Foot IPA - USA - $10.00. No complaints there. You can never go wrong with an elephant's foot. ;-)
Bread soon arrived at the table. It was again an experience we hadn't had before. The bread tasted good and the drizzle (that's what I'll call it) was interesting in flavor. Not necessarily interesting in a good way - but hey we're trying new things here!
We started with appetizers, but thought we may regret getting two with our meals. You know, eyes bigger than the stomach - but thank goodness we did order everything we did. Everything that arrived would be what I considered on the smaller portion side. Which is ok.
My Husband ordered the Charred Octopus, $17.00 - again an experience. Would he or I order it again, no - but you gotta try things at least once. I ordered the Charcuterie for $18.00. (Please refer to the pictures for both.) The various small bites were interesting and some even tasty. Would I order this again, no. Again, we're here for the experience.
Moving along to the meals - I had the North African-spiced Tofu for $35.00. I felt out of all the things I have had at the parks this was probably the most healthiest option. It was like a large salad with a side of tofu. The tofu, to me, didn't have all that much flavor - but again people it's the experience you're there for. It's table service in a park after all.
My Husband had the Butter Chicken for $38.00, he liked this meal very much and said it was very good and would definitely order it again. I had a bite of his and it was in fact excellent with wonderful flavor. He had a bite of mine and said he wasn't a fan. I was jealous of his meal. Lesson learned for next time, order the Butter Chicken.
Again you're having table service at a very busy park - you aren't eating at a 5 star restaurant. For us it was on par with what we've come to expect. We'd eat here again, but wouldn't order some of the things we did this time around. It was our first time and we didn't know what to expect which is why I didn't ding them on food.
Nice place. Nice ambiance. Nice staff. Nice overall experience. You should try it...don't trust what I'm saying - you may love it more than we did. We'll go again because it was unique and knowing what we know now - I think we know what to expect and what to order and what...
