I had extremely high hopes for this restaurant and as far as the food and our waitress, I was not disappointed in the least. Both were EXCEPTIONAL! The rest of the experience though, was not ideal. My family of 6 arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time so I checked in from my phone and waited outside the hotel while they readied our table. 4 minutes after my reservation time, I recieved a text saying our table was ready and that we could come in to be seated. We walk in and go to the restaurant service desk. I should mention that I don’t always have the best hearing but it was especially worse while at Disney because our plane ride affected my ear drums so I was having a harder time than usual. Couple this with the fact that there is a running fountain beside the desk, lots of people in and around the restaurant, and a high traffic entrance and exit zone with the main elevators close by, it was just very loud and difficult to communicate. So when I made it up to the woman seating, (she had an Aussie?maybe? Accent as well; which of course is fine but again, added to difficulty understanding because I just wasn’t used to it and had a harder time reading her lips) she asked me a question and I can’t remember what I thought she asked but I nodded my head and said okay but she just kept shaking her head no and getting annoyed with me. After she said it 2 more times, I make out that she’s asking if my whole party is there and I say yes and she tells me that my table isn’t ready and I’ll have to wait. Keep in mind, I’d already checked in and received a text saying that my table was ready already. And I could also see many empty tables. But I told her that it was fine and I walked to the side to wait. My party consisted of myself and my husband, our 9 yr old, 6yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. We had been at the park all day and our reservation was for 7:45 and at this point it is 7:55 and everyone is very tired so we stand off to the side instead of the middle of the waiting area to try and keep our children occupied and not bother anyone. After about 10 minutes of waiting my 1 year old is getting very fussy so I start pacing back and forth with him to try and get him to sleep. I’m still somewhat close to the desk so there wouldn’t be any way I could miss them calling our name. The same girl at the desk made eye contact with me multiple times as well so she definitely realizes we are still waiting. After another 10 minutes go by and we have seen everyone else waiting go to their tables, I decide it’s okay to move to the seating area and try to keep the baby occupied looking at the fountain. We are directly in front of the desk at this point but still no one calls us or asks us about our wait. Baby is getting fussier and more upset waiting and by this point it is pushing 8:20. The desk girl that is seating keeps looking up at me but never says anything and I’m getting upset because I can’t calm the baby down so I tell my husband to wait there and I go around the corner by the elevators to soothe him. My husband had offered to ask the service desk about our wait a few times but I told him it was okay and I’d give them a bit longer. We have both worked in service before and understand it can sometimes take longer than expected and we were both extremely excited to eat here so I didn’t want to ruin it by rushing them and then getting poor service. I’m very upset and stressed because I don’t understand why we haven’t been seated, have a very tired baby and family and have barely eaten up to this point. I finally break down in tears and pull up nearby fast food places on my phone because I can’t put my family through waiting any longer. Once I get the baby calmed back down, I walk back up to the desk as another desk service woman happens to walk up. I ask if it’s possible to just cancel my reservation because at this point we’d been waiting for over a half an hour even with reservations (continue reading in photos,...
Read moreWe ate here for both breakfast and dinner. We made reservations in advance and did the mobile check in. The breakfast buffet price was $39/person and included a drink, which we chose as “jungle juice” otherwise known as POG juice (pineapple orange guava), it is delicious and bottomless. The server came over to take your drink order and refill your drinks, as well as clear your plates, and make sure you are doing okay and don’t need anything else. Otherwise it is a serve yourself buffet. It is all you care to enjoy and is decently large. They have all of the traditional breakfast fare, but they also have a few African flare items which I appreciated. We liked the sticky buns, and the ham, everything else was all just fine. The hosts came and did a small parade of drums which was fun. Definitely come hungry because there is more than enough food here to fill you up. We left very full. Overall we enjoyed our meal, but it was very reminiscent of the Disney cruise line buffet breakfast, which is adequate. Overall we enjoyed our meal and were glad to do it once, but we do not think it was worth the price tag and will not come again. The dinner buffet price was $58/person and included a drink, which we requested the jungle juice again, which they had. There was a large variety of food, there was a small kids traditional section, and the rest was very African inspired which was awesome to try everything. We like the different kinds of hummus, the different salads, the coconut rice, all of the soups (they had 5), and all of the mashed potatoes (they had 3). They also had zebra domes for dessert which was great (among a bunch of other desserts), and the lemon dessert was refreshing. They did a small drum parade here as well. Definitely come hungry for this one as well because we left overstuffed. Overall again, it reminded us of the quality of a Disney cruise line buffet, which is decent, but definitely not worth the $58/person price tag. While we enjoyed our dinner, we will not be returning. Also note, parents, please supervise your children or teach them what a buffet is and to be sanitary and use tongs. I saw a child unsupervised moving around all of the chocolate chip cookies on the tray with...
Read moreBe Adventurous, Try A Little of Everything Set in the lower level of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House, sits this buffet style eatery that is designed to look like an African market. We had just a short wait to be seated and a server took our drink order and explained the layout. I do believe non-alcohol beverages like coffee, tea and soda are included, not 100% sure. Beer and cocktails are available. On one side of the restaurant are numerous pods, or stations, with various foods. One end starts with proteins and ends with desserts. In the middle are salads and soups. I tried a wide variety of the offerings, while my wife just sampled a few as she had less of an appetite. The Seafood Stew was excellent. Lots of various seafood, a variety of veggies in a light broth. The Lamb Stew could have just as easily been a beef based soup. Not a stew, more of a soup. Pass if you want to taste lamb. The Yassa Style Salmon was tasty indeed. Thick pieces of salmon, covered with a unique blend of spices and who knows what else. Moist and flavorful. Many flavorful veggie dishes to choose from. And to top it all off, there are many dessert choices. Cookies for some, fancier attractions for others. The Butterscotch Bread Pudding was a real treat for me. Then again, so was the Pie Cup with Apple Raisin Compote. And the little round treats filled with different mousses – heaven! Dinner price including sales tax is $123.54 for two adults or $61.77 per adult, plus tip. It is a bit to spend for dinner, but considering you’re dining at a hotel restaurant at Disney World, experiencing flavors from another land, I didn’t think it was too bad. In fact, I’m glad we had dinner there and we both really enjoyed the tasting adventure we experienced. The staff never made us feel rushed and we took our time is this...
