My Apartment Kitchen — Restaurant in Bayonne

I read some reviews before going there about their charging practices, I figured I just need to be careful. We ordered the food for two persons, prices were acceptable. Even verbally asked for the price of one item we weren’t sure about. Then my SO went to pay the bill at the register. The item we confirmed the price suddenly went up, also a 15% percent auto tip tacked on ( nowhere was this indicated), and then by the time she was signing for the credit, another surcharge got added. I suppose the credit card surcharge is legal and they can charge auto tip, but feel that they should better inform the customers. They were not written on the menu and the person I presume to be the owner/manager said he needs new menus to clarify. And honestly, I have suspicion that the auto gratuity were applied to us because we were not regulars. I highly doubt they could apply that tip to everyone dining in there. It’s a dingy take-out place with a few tables where most would not be tipping at the regular dine-in rate (if at all) and they have a tip jar by the register. Delicious food! I’ve been here four times for time in and one time for delivery. Delivery took about an hour and twenty minutes and one of my hot items was cold. But everything was delicious as usual so I’m not complaining. They do tell you delivery will take one hour and five minutes. The pollo a la brasa and chaufa rice is always a good choice. The lomo saltado, aji de gallina, and chupe de camarones are all delicious. I’ve been here for breakfast too and trie the lomo con pan and chicharrón con pan. The chicharrón con pan is now one of my items with Peruvian chicharrón, sweet potato, and salsa criolla in a sandwich, you can’t go wrong. My family has been ordering My Apartment for years. Today, October 22 I placed an order for half a chicken with french fries. To my surprise, the total was $19.01. I couldn't believe it but decided not to question it over the phone considering I felt I could remedy any discrepancy in person. When I arrived, I was pleasantly greeted by the cashier attendant. Once again, she quoted $19.01. When I asked about it, she mentioned it was correct. She mentioned there was a surcharge on the order because I only ordered fries with the chicken combo instead of accepting the house salad with the combo.
