A1 Grill — Restaurant in Bayonne

I visited Bayone NJ one day in the summer 2019, arriving hungry for lunch. I was driving alone (I'm a senior citizen) and I was in the mood for a hot dog or deli sandwich. I cruised the main shopping street and quickly discovered that most of the businesses were international-themed. I saw the sign for A-1 Grill, and I figured this would be the place where I could get an American-style lunch. I was wrong. The menu featured things like Baba Ghanouj and Chicken Shawarma. However, the place looked clean and bright and welcoming, similar to a small diner. Something told me this was a good place. Abandoning my lunch cravings, I ordered a Falafel platter. It was excellent. I ordered it To Go because I wanted to eat lunch at a nearby waterfront park. In the round covered foil dish there were 6 round patties of falafel, a nice salad of crispy veggies, a good portion of pita bread, a bed of moist rice, and a white sauce in a small container. All very tasty and well-prepared. It cost about $7.95 and the portion was large. I like the way I was treated in this restaurant and I liked what I saw of the quiet, hard-working staff. I ordered once from here (Bayonne location) for delivery and the food was not bad so I called back a few days later to place another order, a big order and from the minute the man picked up the phone he was extremely rude in the manner in which he was speaking to me and taking the order so before finalizing the order since the rudeness level kept getting worse and worse I asked him “Sir, is there a particular reason why you are speaking to me in this manner? With no reason. Is this how you speak to ur customers?” He then proceeded to try to change his tone slightly and tell me he is busy and needs to finalize the order. I told him if he wants my business I’m going to need an apology for the unwarranted rudeness to which of course he did not. Instead kept asking me so what are you going to do? You gonna finalize the order? not denying that he was being rude but not remorseful or acknowledging it either. Basically I would not recommend this place until they get someone with a better attitude to pick up their phones. Terrible and unnecessary experience. Really bad experience. 4 people working in one restaurant on a off peak time couldn’t prepare one order in an hour! What a joke. On top 0 customer service skills.

The lady at the counter told me one dish remaining. I said okay I will take others, then mentioned others are also cooking! The estimate at that point was 10 min, I am standing here - 25 min and counting. Now no one wants to look at me as they know they screwed up multiple times. One thing worse than anything else is making stories. Hope they learn a lesson from this and try to be more attentive, at least more honest with customers.
