Super Yum!! Their café con leche is the best!! Super authentic!! I only wish my Dad could have tasted this Cuban coffee, one last time. Though...they use the Nescafé brand, and not the Bustello brand, which he preferred. Even so, I think it's amazingly prepared, so smooth and rich.
The Cuban sandwich tastes just like Dad's. I love it, as a treat. Takes me down memory lane. I usually come here for these two items: The Café con Leche and The Authentic Cuban Sandwich. The bread tastes exactly like the bread our relatives used! Not similar, THE SAME texture and taste. Makes me happy just thinking about it, to be honest. The food of my childhood. Will definitely continue coming back for the coffee and sandwich.
I wish they served Traditional Cuban Flan... Even if they only sold it during certain times of the year. Good Flan, you know, with the dark top and the bubbly air pockets, brings back memories!!!
Or if they sold Guava Paste with Cuban Crackers... guava paste or pasta de guayaba that is sold around here and in the ones from Florida, are so different in taste, color, and texture.
If they did sell either of these, they would have Best Cuban Lunch menu in Texas!
Still, totally worth the trip for the coffee and sandwiches. Seriously! So good......
All in all the staff is very friendly. The food comes pretty fast. They have a card reader, so you don't need cash, which I like. Also, you can call orders in, which speeds up the process that much more. The atmosphere is cozy, but not fussy.
If you are in the area, I say stop by, especially, if you want authentic tasting Cuban sandwiches and coffee. I go back every few months. Yum. Yum. In fact, I think I will take the family there now, for lunch.
If I had anything to say as constructive critism, I don't care for their picadillo. It isn't at all like our families picadillo, but to be fair, ours is the only picadillo I am familiar with. Other than that, I enjoy this place am a...
Read moreI stumbled across this FIND in Baytown and had no idea it has been here for 2 years! My husband and I had breakfast here while our car's window was repaired nearby.
First, all the food is prepared fresh. This is what you would make in your own home kitchen, if you have the time and the recipes.
My husband had the 4 egg omelet (yes, really). It was also loaded with zucchini, squash, and tomatoes. He was able to order whatever he wanted on his omelet. Vegetables were fresh! Skillet potatoes were served on the side. They were prepared fresh as well! Cuban toast also -- authentic from a cuban bakery in Florida.
My husband likes his coffee strong and black. He said the coffee was excellent! Price was less than other popular coffee chains and he & I like to support good locally-owned businesses when we can.
I ordered the Cuban french toast. It was also served with a meat and the skillet potatoes. I asked if I could have the ropa vieja Cuban beef instead, which is indescribable. You just have to try it to experience how wonderful it is. It is slow simmered in peppers and other seasonings, tender and falling apart. Delectable delicious! The french toast was made with the Cuban bread, of course! I love how this bread's crust is crusty & flaky on the outside and soft on the inside, wonderful texture. Skillet potatoes also served on the side.
This was an enormous amount of food for the two of us. We shared some of it then boxed the rest to bring home. Next time I might order that huge 4-egg omelet to go and split it between 2 or 3 of us to share.
Healthy options for those with specific diet requirements. It is difficult finding restaurants to accommodate these diets for our family, which require mainly vegetables (not fried). This menu offers this, which is another reason we...
Read moreA good little place to eat cuban food. The food is what one might consider authentic and those serving and making the food are knowledgeable and personable. Anyone who wanted a refill on their drink could just walk up and get it, no problems were had. The Cuban Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and on the surface, seems to get a lot of their business from the refineries nearby. My father and I both ordered the Ropa Vieja, which came with rice (mine was yellow and my father ordered white) 3 small plantains and yuca. The meat was very tender and well made, spiced just right with a very welcome flavor. My Father's white rice was just white rice, but my yellow rice was excellent and far superior. Quite tasty. The Yuca (which i'd never had) and the plantains were a welcome addition to the meal and added a lot of tasty filler. All in all the meal was a little pricey but incredibly tasty and plenty of food for the price. Excellent value, too, I'm a big guy (huge, actually) and I couldn't finish my meal and between my dad and I, we left enough for basically a full plate that my brother ate and enjoyed. From what I saw when I was there, the value and what they seem to make the most of was the sandwiches that they offered. Most of the plant workers were eating the sandwiches, and they all looked to be of a good size (perhaps a bit smaller than a Mexican Torta) and filled with more of the same excellent food. I would come here again, though i would probably get the sandwiches or come during...
