We drove all the way from Pahrump WITH today's gas prices, to try the chili at Happy Burro. We arrived to find the place packed inside and out. There isn't much seating inside, but people were jammed in. There's more seating outside, some shaded, some not. We were greeted by the cutest little purple-haired waitress who let us know that she was there by herself, so please be patient. She gave us menus and waved us outside. She quickly came and took our orders, a Frito boat and a chili dog, a glass of merlot, a ginger ale. The ginger ale was canned Seagram's with a bar cup of ice. My bf said that the merlot tasted like it had been opened and left on the counter for three days, so he sat there and got extra tipsy! The Frito boat (his order) was just a smallish bowl of chili with some Fritos on top. My chili dog was a great Hebrew National with onions and cheese on top, with probably the same amount of chili that he got, and it came with a bag of yellow Lay's. (Who doesn't love yellow Lay's?) And I have to say.... It probably was the best darn chili I've ever had. We definitely were not disappointed, except my bf was pouty that I had so much chili and kept stealing his Fritos to dip in mine! But, as mentioned before, he was getting extra tipsy on the double-fermented wine, so his complaints actually were nominal. I kept shoving bites of my chili dog in his mouth. I do wish there had been some yellow mustard to go on it, though. The local people around us were highly entertaining, rambunctious, and fun. At one point, someone brought water guns (it was something like 106°). We finished eating and headed out to explore the rest of the town (there's a ghost town nearby, and Spicer Ranch...). We want to come back to camp, and we'll definitely be back to the Happy Burro! If you go, tip the waitress well!...
Read moreQuirky dive bar and/or motorcycle club bar. Full of personality and character but in a sad, dilapidated and tired kind of way. The town of Beatty has seen better days. Everything is worn down, weathered, and barely functioning. Places advertise things on the internet that they simply do not have. I ordered a margarita here, only to later be told they had no lime mix. Finally settled on a jack and coke, because that was about the only thing they could make for me as far as cocktails go. My husband ordered a beer. When we went to pay, and only then, did they tell us our order had to be over $10 to use a debit card. We tried to round up enough cash among us, and came up short. Then they told us they would charge us an extra dollar for a processing fee. It was exhausting just to order a drink while on vacation, which should have been enjoyable.... on a positive note, our waitress was funny/sassy and called me baby, which I appreciated. Overall, if you are stuck staying in Beatty because you want to visit the unique beauty of Death Valley, might as well check out the local flavor. It is an experience, that...
Read moreI recently stopped at the Happy Burro in Beatty, NV, and what an incredible find! This charming little spot is the epitome of small-town hospitality with a delightful twist. The atmosphere is welcoming and authentically rustic, offering a genuine slice of Nevada charm.
The menu, though concise, is a testament to quality over quantity. Every dish I tried was bursting with flavor. Their famous chili is a must-try – perfectly spiced and heartwarming, it's like a hug in a bowl. And the burgers? Simply out of this world! Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, they're a carnivore's dream.
But what truly sets the Happy Burro apart is its exceptional service. The staff here goes above and beyond to make every guest feel like a part of the family. Their warm smiles and friendly chats added so much to the overall experience.
To top it off, the prices are incredibly reasonable, offering great value for the quality of food and service. The Happy Burro is more than just a restaurant; it's a memorable experience that I would recommend to anyone passing through Beatty. A definite five-star...
