We've been visiting Upper Crust once or twice per year for the better part of a decade, when we visit Fripp Island. This year's visit was just like all of the others, until the end. We enjoyed great food. We had the Upper Crust meat lovers, and my son got his own small cheese pizza. Service was also excellent.
When our meal was over, I was presented with a check for $65 and change. I gave our server a card, and when she came back, I had been charged a bit over $67. When I asked about this, I was told "oh that's a new credit card fee, we usually try to tell people, but I guess I forgot." followed with "it's 3%" which I can't make the math work for, but whatever.
The merchant agreement with MasterCard (and all of the other cards) is very specific about how businesses must disclose these kind of charges. There must be both a notice at the "point of entry" (door) and on the customer's check with a line item showing a surcharge for credit transactions.
At UC, there was no line item on the ticket I received disclosing a surcharge, and no notice on the door or menu about credit card surcharges. The staff made no effort to fix the fact that they had just overcharged me.
I won't go back. Nickel and diming me with surcharges for something that's always been customarily included in the price of a meal is one thing, outright...
Read moreI used to go here all the time because to me the fried cheese was worth all the annoying servers and long waits but once they changed to cheese stick that taste worse then sonics they completely lost my business. The only thing here that I would recommend now would maybe be the burgers and thats if you want to wait and hour while the teenage servers only pay attention to one table also full of teenagers the entire time. Not a good way to run a business maybe hire someone over 18 or somewhat mature and at least stick with good food instead of changing it out of nowhere. As someone who is also a server I will never go back I don't want yall to think I was a rude customer or something because I wasn't and I always tips over 20% my table was never loud nor complained. The service is just horrible. The Food quality has gone down hill and I am very disappointed. This used to be one on my favorite restaurants and now I honestly forget it...
Read moreThis place is absolutely horrible. If I could give it a zero, I would. My husband and I arrived late into town and wanted something to eat. Because of the lateness in the hour, the choices were limited. We saw that this restaurant was open until 10. We arrived at 9:20 for dine-in and one of the young ladies said we're closing early at 9:45 tonight. We asked if we could still eat in and she said yes. After taking our order, she joined a group of other young staff who were giggling and horse playing around. This was beginning to make my husband and I feel a bit uneasy. Just then one of the young ladies let out a loud screech! To our horror we overheard them scolding one of the cooks for letting his dirty band-aid fall into the silverware. Needless to say we had seen and heard enough. My husband and I left without eating. He did make our server aware why we left and that we would be notifying...
