Typically my husband and I come in Saturday evenings and always have excellent service. We’ve NEVER had a bad experience until today, Christmas Eve. The service was HORRENDOUS!! I can’t even believe how bad it was. Usually Heather and the tall gentleman (dark hair) at the bar are working, and always give great service. We love them. Tonight, was a super skinny shorter hair blondish gal with an attitude and zero customer service skills. She seemed pretty prompt upon our arrival. Got our drinks out quickly. It went to hell after that. Never came back to take our food order (which she knew we were going to place). 20 minutes go by, watching her help everybody at the bar. We change tables, wait some more, then finally I go to the bar to place my order with the guy bartender. Attitude, excuses, blah blah blah. Takes my order, 20 minutes later NO food. No one at the bar was eating, so the kitchen couldn’t have been backed up! Finally the skinny gal returns and asks my husband if he wanted another drink. He expressed his frustration with her lack of service and she yelled at him. Dropped some bad language and told us no one will talk to her that way. She then informed us SHE decides who gets into that establishment and SHE decides who will be served! WTF? I calmly pointed out that her SHE was the one who didn’t return. She snidely replied, I made a mistake, don’t you ever make a mistake? No apology. Nothing. Just a foul mouth and nasty attitude. I will be calling to speak to the manager or owner. This gal needs customer service training or to be put on dish duty, where she has ZERO contact with the public! So very disappointed. We come in several times a month and after this I don’t know when...
Read moreLopping off a star here. OK -- seriously. You NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PATRONS. Yes, I would've liked to order food and yes, I would have liked another drink -- had you asked me 20 minutes ago.
Doesn't matter the time of day, doesn't matter if I'm at the bar or a table or a booth, doesn't matter the server. You fail to show up in a timely fashion, over and over and over. This has been a problem for years. I have no idea why you haven't solved it yet.
Your food prices are no longer a draw. You're actually a tad spendy. Your seating (bar-side) is not ample. And your service is terrible. I would spend more if you actually came by to ask me what I wanted, but you fail to do so. It's not a big place -- learn how to make the circuit.
I'll give it a year, then return to see if you've figured it out.
You get a 2nd star because your servers are (in the main) polite, friendly and welcoming. They're just elsewhere far, far too much.
Original review:
There are two different establishments here, the bar and the restaurant. The restaurant is pretty good. There's a wide variety of menu options and most of them are tasty. (The burgers and sandwiches tend to be better than the entrees on average.) The decor is pretty bland and the prices are typical. Really a 3 1/2 star review.
The sports/dive-ish bar side has a friendly, polite staff that is... usually distracted. If you are at a table or booth you'll often have long waits before someone attends to you, particularly if the bar seating's filled up -- which is most of the time after 5pm. I figure it's just a training issue of some kind but it can be maddening. The drinks are solid and the menu's the same as the restaurant, though, so...
Read moreWe have been regulars at the Peppermill for the past couple of years as my wife and I have our Friday "day dates" in the afternoon for a late lunch and to reconnect over a burger and beer. We have the same server Sheila who we have gotten to know and other servers who recognize us. The food is always consistent with lots of menu choices and the prices are good for a neighborhood bar. We went on Friday, and the entire menu changed, and the prices went up drastically. After asking our server what changed she said the owners hired a marketing/PR firm and they changed everything. The menu went from about 62 items to 41 (removing lots of our favorites) and they changed the name to Peppermill Taphouse and Brewery. The Peppermill isn't that. It's a neighborhood bar with good drinks and food. They aren't fancy and don't need to be. They have regulars who just want good drinks and food. I don't think we will be going back because the vibe is totally different, they prices have gone up TOO MUCH and they removed many of our favorite menu items. Our server told us business was way down, and a lot of regulars had not been in because of the changes. This is really disappointing for us. We liked it there a lot and told many of our friends to support the local neighborhood bar but our time visiting the...
