El Potro Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Belle Isle

AWFUL EXPERIENCE - if I could give this zero Stars I would because 1 star is being generous!! Today I came in for Sunday brunch with a group of my friends and I ordered the steak and eggs platter and I requested my steak to be medium and my eggs to be over medium also. When I got the platter ....the steak was pretty much still mooing at me..it was so bloody!..and tasteless!!...and the eggs were cooked over hard (not runny at all) ..the chimichurri sauce tasted old and bitter..it tasted like it from a jar... There was nothing fresh about it....I felt bad but I sent the plate back and asked for something different..(a burger with no bun done medium...the burger took so long to come out I thought they were catching the cow themselves ....by the time that my burger finally came out...it was pretty much raw!! Bleeding as soon as i cut it in half...and just browned on the outside..i sent it back and they cooked it more for me but then It was overcooked!! The chef personally came out to deliver the overcooked burger.. I'm sorry but your chef has no sense of meat temperature at all.... I have had better Burgers from McDonald's that's how bad it was!!... I just got so tired of waiting to eat... I just decided to eat it because everyone else had already finished their food and was just staring at me.. It was so embarrassing to sit there and stare at everyone else eating and then be the only one left eating while everyone else was done and ready to go!! I will never come back here again! Worst $42 I...

Best Restaurant Near Belle Isle! No Doubt! And the reason I see for that is direct, hands-on, owner management. That is probably why, the food is great, I love the Enchiladas Verdes myself and everything else I have tried has been fabulous. The drinks are fantastic and not overpriced. House Margarita will definitely suffice without an upgrade unless you feel so inclined. I see who I think is Mr. Ramos there all the time, working hard, actually doing anything there is to be done and that's what counts in a small business. This makes the difference. When the food is served there is concern and need for reassurance that you are happy with the product. Too many restaurants miss these easy but important details. In my opinion, this is the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have tried in Orlando, and everyone has an opinion, but I spent much of my life in deep West Texas near El Paso, so I probably have a pretty good idea what authentic taste is. Far better than the OTHER Mexican place we were dining at off of Curry Ford. Give this one a shot, you will be glad you did. We prefer to dine at the bar, which is fully stocked with a wide variety of spirits, naturally, a good selection of Tequilas, Repasado, and Anejo, but even things like good Whiskey, Scotch and even Italian aperitifs and bitters, like Campari for example. This is my choice for best place to eat near Belle Isle, and since I live in Belle Isle, I certainly welcome a good restaurant, we have so few. Be sure and...

May seem italian at first glance, but it is indeed American food.

On first impression walking inside, I was discouraged to eat here. The inside structure seemed old, and I could hear droplets of water free falling into a dripping bucket, from the outside rain.

The ambient was fairly quiet. A T.V. in the background broke the silence, along with dishes clinging with each other under a stream of water. There's a sign regarding seating, and no guests were in. I thought, "I've made a mistake." 😬

Much to my surprise, I was greeted by a very helpful and friendly server. At first, she thought I was looking for a job interview. Must have been my swag attire 😎, but we quickly got conversating. I was in the mood for something light, but filling, so I settled with a Turkey bacon sandwich add mayo (she recommended) and a side order of fries.

The food wait was a bit long for just a sandwich, but boy was it worth it! The turkey was fresh and juicy. The bacon was Krispy and not too greasy, and the cheese was melted to perfection. The fries were peeled and sliced in the kitchen, fresh oil and lightly salted combined for the best meal above and beyond my expectations. Kudos kitchen.

I will definitely come back and try a different...
