Charlie's Place — Restaurant in Belleville

Visited on Halloween night, and it was everything I hoped for and more! Our server, Adrianna, was incredibly kind and gave us spot-on recommendations. We started with the honey Sriracha chicken wings, which were some of the best wings I’ve ever had. They’re made with a homemade dill pickle brine and dipped in their dill ranch—unreal flavor!

For my main, I tried the Belleville Bangers (highly recommended in other reviews), paired with a honey crisp apple Brick River Cider. The dish was amazing, especially the mashed potatoes—easily the best in the area. A side of sauerkraut would be a perfect addition to this meal. My date had the Belleville Trash Chicken with a Belleville classic, Stag beer. The fries were to die for, fried perfectly in a style that’s hard to find. And as a Belleville native, I loved knowing the pickles were made in-house—they reminded me of my grandma’s recipe.

The space is newly renovated but keeps an old-school charm, and the staff, including the owner, were super welcoming. Halloween decor was festive, and we even spotted Fred Flintstone and Mike Myers enjoying drinks at the bar. The location on the corner of historic Abend Street adds to the timeless feel.

They also have a dart board in the back and TouchTunes, which is great if you want to play your own music. I read fantastic things about their ribeye, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available because not enough people order it. I hope more people start asking for it so I can try it.

Incredible food (and shockingly delicious for a dive bar), welcoming vibe, and a must-visit spot for anyone in Belleville. I'll be back soon to try the ribeye...

Charlie's in Belleville has quickly become my new go-to spot! The recent remodel is stunning, clean, and welcoming with just the right mix of charm and comfort. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into every detail.

The food? Fantastic. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and plated to perfection. The drinks were equally impressive—strong, creative, and served up fast. Whether you're in the mood for a casual bite or a night out, they've got you covered.

What really sets Charlie’s apart is the staff. Super friendly, attentive, and genuinely seem to love what they do. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like regulars.

Enjoyed a Belleville Trash Chicken sandwich with a gorgeous hand-battered and sauced filet, hand cut onion rings. Everything is made fresh on this up-scale tavern menu, except the fries. Barb said they couldnt beat the fries they found from a distributor and I understand their decision as they have that slightly crunchy seasoned outer crust that make them disappear off the plate. I was able to enjoy a kitchen tour and saw that it too has been scoured and updated as nicely as the front of house to meet a modern day standard without obscuring the old world charm. Charlie's Place is the latest permutation of a true neighborhood tavern to occupy this building that has hosted a variety of other businesses since 1869.
