The Belleville Square is the town jewel of Belleville, home to the iconic Belleville fountain. Though it's funny that it's called the Square because it's really a circle- a roundabout.
The fountain spews water high in the air at all hours from spring through fall and is lit up at dusk, gradually changing colors, offering a beautiful glow in the night. Just this spring (2023), the grass surrounding the fountain was replaced with turf and this summer the water pipes are being replaced.
Several of the surrounding buildings are major locations to the area, like the St. Clair County Courthouse. Unfortunately the large bank on the northeast corner has been closed for several years, but opens up for events like Art On the Square.
There's a Veterans Memorial on the southeast corner, bearing names of several Belleville locals, Curt's Clock- another memorial but for an individual, and several sculptures on the northwest and southwest corners. In front of the courthouse are several mini fountains that also light up at night.
The Belleville Square hosts the most popular events of the city- at least 6 parades, a nationally recognized art show- Art On the Square, Oktoberfest, the Chili Cook-off, concerts in front of the courthouse, and various community events. It's the main hub...
