Topaz — Restaurant in Belleville

I frequent this place quiet often for lunch with my work buddies. Its a nice, cozy Thai restaurant serving pretty tasty food. It has good seating with decent Decor. They have pretty reasonable pricing, especially their lunch specials are perfect @ $8/9. I have found the food quiet flavorful and tasty. Note, few may find the food spicy and let the staff know about your preferences. However, the service may run slow especially when the restaurant is crowded. Often observed this while visiting them with large groups.

The menu at Topaz Thai is quiet vegetarian & vegan friendly. They have a lunch special menu where each dish can be ordered with vegetables or tofu(vegan options) as the choice of protein and comes with a side of soup/salad. I found the simple miso soup made with some spices and vegetables really flavorful and always look forward to trying it each time I visit. I absolutely love their spicy Thai basil noodles with Tofu, also tried the Massamun curry & Rama Curry which too were great. The curry options are served with a cup of rice on the side.

This review is not for the food (because I never got to it thanks to them) but for the customer service. The restaurant says it closes at 10pm (9:30pm on Google)on saturday. It does not offer delivery or dine in so I called them twice in the day to see if they take over the phone orders and what time the kitchen closes. Both times the call was not picked or went to mail box straight. Nevertheless, reading the good food reviews I arrived at 9:10 to find the restaurant closed. When I waved at the staff inside, she just gestured back saying its closed. Well, I can clearly see that but do keep it permanently closed if you don’t want the business. Else, either update your restaurant timings or pick up the goddam phone. The food might be great but it doesn’t help if I drive 15 mins for nothing. In the covid era, when businesses are struggling to survive and its as it is hard to find food after 8pm, this left a very sour...

I ordered take out from Topaz thai, an average Thai place, compared to the one in Montclair, simply because I live nearby. The woman on the phone was in a hurry to take my order, and hung up without giving me a total. Upon reaching the counter, she notified me that the bill was $6 higher than I anticipated, because "coconut milk has quadrupled in price" - yet the seafood dish was higher as well, due to what? Moreover, the amount of food that I got was simply not worth the amount that I paid - $12 for a chicken curry dish, and $18 for the seafood...I felt ripped off based on price/performance ratio. Additionally, the girl behind the counter was commenting to another waitress in her native Thai language, in a hushed tone that I felt was condescending and directed towards me. I will never go...
