This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but after today I will no longer patronize Sweets and Corditos. There are other comments mentioning that they do not cater to their Black customers like they do their various Spanish speaking patrons. I usually get my orders delivered but today I decided to pick up my order. I am Afro Latina but depending on where I go, I sometimes don't speak Spanish. The owner assumed I was Black American and was completely rude and dismissive. It's unfortunate because the ladies working are always very nice and accommodating. Today I ordered through DoorDash and the app said my order was ready for pickup. I arrived 5 minutes later and was told my order wasn't ready. I realized my order had been sitting on the counter (my drink was there when I first came in and the two sandwiches came out of the kitchen 5 minutes later). I told the staff that my order was on the counter but not packaged yet. They were very busy and told me it was a different order, so I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes I again told them that my order was right there and now it's been placed in the wrong to-go bag. I knew it was my order because I heard the kitchen staff say my name when the food came out and I watched as the owner put it on the counter. So I told the owner (who kept trying to ignore me) again and this time I didn't back down. I told him and showed them my app. I said that my order order has been sitting there for over 20 minutes and now it's on someone else's to-go bag. Another female finally came over that spoke more English and opened the bag and correctly gave me my order. The owner took off for the kitchen because he didn't want to acknowledge that I was right. So I asked to speak with him and he came out and told me I have the correct order. I acknowledged I did, but I told him that if they would've listened to me, that I wouldn't have wasted 20 minutes waiting for my order that was sitting there. He again repeated that I got my correct order now. I told him an apology goes a long way. So he said "ya ya sorry". It was so condescending and I felt so disrespected because I'm spending my hard earned money on a minority owned business which I enjoy doing. But I will not patronize establishments that do not treat all people the same no matter...
Read moreIt sucks to give this place 1 star because to be honest - their food is deliciousâŠ.. but thatâs it.
If you place an order, prepare for it to be wrong. I dont have other nearby Cuban spots, and we are Cuban so when we started going here we were so excited.
I have placed orders at work with 10 other people, (a lot of $$) and you would think at least once they would get the order right ⊠but every time, something is wrong.
There is never a call to ask for replacement items - if they donât have they will just not include it. So 10 people will be waiting for their food, and when it arrives - several people have to order somewhere else because the restaurant wonât even call to ask for replacement.
If you ask for a soda and they donât have it, again - they donât callâŠthey just send a different soda.
If you order Cuban Sandwhiches - be aware you have a 50/50 chance of paying for a Cuban Sandwhich and receiving a ham and cheese Sandwhich.
If you order for pick up, make sure youâre not in a rush - you can order 30 min ahead and stand there another 20 in the store waiting.
Again - when they get it right, the food is delicious. But the chances of them getting it right? âŠ...
Read moreTranslated from the Spanish meaning small cut, it refers to a strong, Cuban-style espresso drink. It's essentially a small, sweet version of a Spanish cortado, and it's made with a high sugar content and a touch of milk, typically 1:1 espresso to hot milk.
Located on Washington Avenue in Belleville, customers are greeted by the portrait of musical icon Celia Cruz aptly proclaiming ÂĄAzucar! behind the pastry counterâs tart pastelitos de guayaba y queso and quesitos of the newly renovated next door to the old one with a warm and inviting vibe at Cortaditos.
As my partner and I were invited for a celebration, we decided to get a dozen of the Guava Pastellitos as well as the Meat Pastellito and Ropa Vieja Empanada.
These were small, flaky pastries filled with a sweet and savory filling. They are a popular Cuban treat, often enjoyed for breakfast, snack, or dessert. The meats were tasty and richly flavored. The empanadas were baked and not greasy. These guava pastelitos were a big part of my childhood.
The staff were friendly and attentive. The price was reasonable for the area.
For a first-timer to the new location, it wonât be the last, as I can...
