I went to Wiseguys drive thru right before noon today and ordered an Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese. The sandwich is $7.99, the add ons are $.60 each, plus tax. My ticket came out to $10.78. The total alarmed me a bit, but I assumed I would automatically receive a receipt to itemize everything I paid for. I paid with Apple Pay debit and received my order. I didn’t receive a receipt, so I asked for one after I received the order. The server gave me the wrong receipt, which was a cash tender with a total lower than mine, and a completely different order. No big deal, I assumed it was an honest mistake. So I asked him if he could give me the correct receipt. He told me that it WAS the correct receipt… I reasserted that it wasn’t the proper one, and I paid with debit, not cash. I also explained that the receipt had a different order. I just thought it would be a simple fix, but this guy proceeded to debate with me about the receipt. It was very surprising. I’ve never seen anything like it. I remained polite and explained again that I just wanted the correct receipt for my order, which I believe that I am entitled to for something I paid for. He gave me another receipt, closed the window immediately, and walked away. As I suspected, there were hot peppers added to my order, which I didn’t ask for, and that’s where the extra charge came from. He had walked away from the window, so I went inside the restaurant to bring this error to his attention. At this point I still don’t know what’s on the sandwich, I never opened it. He admitted that he may have tendered my order wrong and that’s why I was charged extra. I asked if he could make my order correctly or just refund the $.60 for the hot peppers, and he refused to do so. At that point, I’m a bit flustered, but remained calm. He told me to pick the hot peppers off, but [arrogantly] still didn’t offer a refund for his error at that time. I realized that I was speaking to an uncouth employee, so I asked to speak to a manager. The manger was not present, and he refused to give me the manager’s info. The employee also would not give me his name. I was willing to bite the bullet, and still have the order made correctly, or a $.60 refund, but no adjustment was made. I actually just wanted the sandwich, but didn’t think it was fair to be charged for something I didn’t want or asked for. After a bit of going back and forth, he discourteously gave me a full cash refund. As I’m standing there, visibly confused and frustrated, he scoffed, “what are you going to do about it?” That was a bit over the top, so I pulled out my camera to take a video of this employee’s behavior. Contemptuously, he called the police as if I did something wrong. I waited for the police because I had nothing to hide, and didn’t act belligerent in any manner. The police were polite, and told me I’m NOT banned and I’m welcome to come back anytime, bc clearly I didn’t disturb the peace or intend to make a scene. However I will never go back and will tell everybody I know abt this experience. It felt VERY discriminatory, Jim Crow-ish and simply uncalled for. I included a pic of the employee and hopefully this guy never gets hired in customer service anywhere again. Do...
Read moreMan I struggled to give these guys the fifth star, because it is a smidge overpriced even considering the current climate and everything that they are doing right which is a lot and is not easy. The good: 1. they invested in the location. It is bright, clean, nice signage, good parking, attractive. A very nice addition especially because there are limited choices in this area. People should support this place and keep it going 2. Everyone I encountered during my visit through the drive through (3 employees) were very, very friendly, competent and presented themselves well. I don't have to tell most how unusual this is in a fast food atmosphere. 3. I was greeted right away at the drive through. They got my order right and repeated it back (I did not have to repeat my order 3 times to someone who wasn't listening) and the drive through was 4 cars deep and moved along quickly and with a smile. 4. The food quality is off the charts. I had the Vienna Beef Hot Dogs and an order of fries and all of the food was hot, fresh, and what I would describe as premium quality for a fast food place. Very, very good food.
My only gripe is the price. Even with all of this good. Even with what I can see is a significant investment, overhead, great employees and food, I paid $17 for 2 hot dogs, a small fry and a drink. I am a business person. It is smart for them to charge higher prices as a freshly opened place that people are eager to try. A few bucks over the average for great food and a great experience is worth it. The same type of meal at a competitor is in the ballpark of $11 or $12. All of this being the case I will probably go back. The menu has a lot of...
Read moreMy sister told me about two recent enjoyable visits to Wise Guys, so I had to try it out for myself. I hadn't been inside the building in probably 18 years when I was a kid going out to eat with my grandparents at Jack in the Box. The inside got a nice face-lift, I fully expected it to be outdated. The decor is bright and the dining room is well-lit. There's an entire wall with an image of Santorini on it. Food is served on a tray with a newspaper print from the eighties. I read about the Titanic being found at the bottom of the ocean, the Berlin Wall being torn down, and ET's box office record numbers while enjoying my lunch (I hope they change those out so I can read something new on my next visit).
I enjoyed a Chicago-styled hotdog and potato skins. The hotdog was delicious, made with Vienna Beef; but the potato skins were pretty flavorless.
The cooks were very kind and hard-working, trying effortlessly to get the food cooked and served as fast as possible (a spirit I haven't seen in a fastfood restaurant in a while).
I'm excited to return and try some other menu items; like their hot sandwiches, french fries, gyros and baklava! There were three slices of baklava under a glass cover at the register that were tempting me, a very effective...
