This is a favorite spot for us, though we only visit 6-8 times per year. Steve and Sue, the owners, both work behind the sushi bar with another sushi chef often there. They are augmented by well-trained, personable servers (probably students at WWU nearby) and with a kitchen crew that turns out remarkably good, widely varied but mostly Asian food in addition to the sushi. We try to sit at the sushi bar where the crew works quietly and impressively, careful about cleanliness (important to us when dealing with sushi) and between the restaurant and their takeout business, they are always busy. The fish in stock is clearly displayed on a board near the counter. Meanwhile, off the menu, are some excellent values in dining, particularly the Bento Boxes which provide generous servings. The tempura is especially nice, we think, delicate yet firm, not overdone; it's a favorite with my wife; I often have sashimi just because the raw fish is served so well, with reasonable portions. We'll have the house sake, sashimi for me, a Bento for her, and perhaps a side or two extra (miso comes with the Sashimi and the check is around $60-$65...not cheap, but worth it; way better than the "conveyor-belt" spots that are around the same price by the time you're out the door. The place has a modern ambiance with nice furniture and decor to match the somewhat polished feeling (and it's not too noisy!); it's located in a small office/professional building just toward town from the Samish Way McDonald's; we've always been able to park close by. Beware:...

Read moreI have eaten here for many years. It is usually the only place I get fish. I have not been back for a few months. Recently, since May 2024 things have changed. If you call for togo within an hour and half of closing you will be turned away. If you show up to eat in resturant with in an hour and half of closing you will be turned away. If they are busy they will turn you away. If you show up to dine in and there is a wait to be seated. You will be encouraged to wait in your car. A typical wait time is 45 to an hour. I empathize that it is a small resturant. But as a business model, sending a hungry customer to wait in there car for an hour... You can not expect them to come back. After the 5th time of being turned away I started to think maybe it was me. UNTIL, I had dinner with a friend who also is a Blue Fin Fan like me. She too has had the same experince over the last few months and has completely stopped eating there. I do not know if I will ever eat there again. Which is a true loss. There ahi tower is the best! I write this review in hopes of helping other customers who have been turned away to know...
