Finally a DELICIOUS Chinese restaurant in Bellingham. Wonderful staff and a cook that understands and knows his flavors. It's been a trial trying to find good Asian cuisine in this town. We've eaten at most all of them. Some are OK. But for real deluxe Chinese food, this one wins for me so far. It's so delicious that I end up going 2 days in a row before I have to shamelessly pull myself away from the table. Anytime I think there will be leftovers, I end up eating most all of it.
We usually get crispy spring rolls, spicy basil rice with shrimp, lo mein, and seven flavor beef. To begin....the chicken is delicious and properly crispy when tossed in the spicy orange sauce. Not the fake overly orange sauce that's out there, but legitimate sauce made from scratch with peppers that gives it a nice little kick. The beef is seared to perfection and is tender but with the a little wok fried love on the edges. It's not drowning in some muddy sauce like other places do. This sauce is PACKED with flavor and one of my favorite dishes there. The fact that they utilize lemongrass speaks to the part of the many regions in China. This food is wonderful. The spicy basil rice is the best fried rice I've ever had. It really is superior. Lo mein is delicious, flavorful, and the crispy spring rolls are too good. Not greasy. Super crispy with a sweet sauc for dipping. This is the food you eat when you have a palate for ingredients. You can see the ingredients and taste them.
I have 3 stars for the atmosphere only because it could use a little more decor to make it feel like a legit Chinese restaurant. It is a very clean spot and usually quiet. I don't think people know what they're missing out on. Either way. More for me. Great job Red Ginger. Please don't...
Read moreOverall a very good Asian Cuisine place. The hours of operation are unique such that they are closed from 3pm-4pm every day. The drink selection was fairly good, we got a bottle of riesling white wine and a glass of plum wine, both were very good given we were at an Asian Cuisine restaurant. We had self serve water refills which I love. The cream cheese Rangoons had a distinct chive/garlic flavor which made it a 'hit or miss'. My wife did not like them but I thought they were OK. The sesame seed balls were the same way. No one but my mother in law liked them.
The soups are sized for a meal, not a personal appetizer. I ordered the wonton soup and the bowl was massive so our whole party shared it. The broth was not as flavorful as I hoped, but the individual components were all very good.
The a La cart menu dishes are family sized and can easily feed 2-4 people ,they come without sides obviously. One side of rice will easily feed two people, so I wouldnt get more than 2 of then for a party of four. We got orange chicken, sweet /sour chicken, and broccoli with tofu. The chicken was nice and crispy and very flavorful sauces, and the broccoli was Al dente and very fresh. Clean bathrooms and clean dining area. Nice and friendly staff, they checked in on us a few times during the meal but mustve got distracted at the end, when we finished eating we waited an extra 15 min for her to come back to ask if we needed boxes. Will consider this place again when...
Read moreYummy Chinese food and friendly owners/employees but room for improvement. Their iced fruit tea is bomb. The garlic shrimp was delicious, mildly sweet and spicy with lots of fresh veggies. My daughter liked the orange chicken with actual orange peels, but for me it was a tad overly sweet and ketchup flavored. You also have to buy your rice on the side which is odd. The vegetable udon soup with beef was delicious, but didn’t include broccoli as advertised.
The wontons in chili sauce were more like spicy yet bland soup because the noodles fell apart and they were drenched in plain chili oil and flakes. I had to rinse off the wontons to remove all the chili flakes because they was so many of them, then I added a more flavorful sauce of ginger, sesame, chili oil like what is usually standard in other restaurant versions of wontons in chili sauce. And there’s no fortune cookies😫lol. Also it is very pricey, but what isn’t anymore after the astronomical...
