A big thank you to Robert, Holly, Brandy, and their fabulous team from Bend Pizza Kitchen for having our Bend Foodies Meet & Greet, and the incredibly warm and accommodating welcome. 💛🙏🏼🍕 Their space in NWX is great, modern and inviting. They also have a large patio area to dine and imbibe outdoors. 🍻😎 For appetizers we had a fresh and delish Caesar Salad, mouth-watering Cheesy Breadsticks, and meatballs in a fabulous red sauce, certainly some of the best meatballs I’ve had in Bend. 🤤 🍕 Their pizzas are a thin; NYC style. I tried both their Supreme and Chicago Deep Dish, and holy smokes were they good! Certainly some of the best I've had in Bend. The crust was delicious, and packed just the right crunch. Another shout-out to the red sauce too because it was deeply rich and flavorful. They prioritize local sourcing, prepared from scratch recipes, and fresh dough baked daily, and you can really taste the love and attention to culinary technique. 👏🏼 If you haven’t been to BPK, I highly recommend you check them out, and I’m excited for my next return!

We were visiting from out of town and were looking for a place to celebrate our 29th anniversary. On our first date so many years ago, we went out for pizza and mini-golf. Since we had just finished playing mini-golf with our kids (yes, dad won), we decided to go get some pizza. Bend Pizza Kitchen was a recommended place we found. Though it wasn't located in DT Bend, we still wanted to give it a try. We are so glad we did! This has to be the most delicious pizza we've ever had!! We ordered the Chicken Club and Garlic Bread Knots. The care in the ingredients and the preparation absolutely comes across in the flavor. It's pretty amazing to be able to taste the difference between "just pizza", and "fresh organic pizza". When we come back to Bend, we will definitely be stopping by Bend Pizza Kitchen for more delicious pizza!!

We ordered two pizzas. The Barbie and a make your own pizza because we needed a dairy free cheese option. This was a huge disappointment. It took over 2 hours for the pizzas to arrive. Granted, it’s a Saturday night, but over two hours is way too long. And then we got the pizzas. The Barbie was OK. Nothing spectacular. But the make your own pizza was the real disappointment. Pepperoni was paper thing and about two slices on a slice of pizza. I can’t describe the rest of it… the picture tells a thousand words. Not ordering from them again. And over $80 for two pizzas. To their credit, they did refund the cost of the pizzas. We’re still hungry.

Edit: went in and spoke with the manager this morning and explained the situation. She was very apologetic and let me know that the boys working were very new, which I had assumed. Definitely made the situation right, which I really appreciate. Customer service was great as usual, and I will continue to enjoy the lovely pizzas made at Bend Pizza Kitchen.

Let me preface this by saying that I have been to Bend Pizza Kitchen before and usually have a great experience. I enjoyed the local/ fresh ingredient promise about crafting a great product for their customers, like Bend Pizza Kitchen.

However, tonight I had a very frustrating experience at Bend Pizza Kitchen. All I wanted was a one topping deep dish pizza.

Bend Pizza Kitchen was listed as offering deep dish pizza on Google, so I decided to order from them. I called in and ordered a pineapple deep dish pizza. The boy who took my order was very nice and respectful. I went in and picked up my order right before they closed and took it home. When I got home, I was upset to find multiple other toppings on the pizza, including meat, which I do not want on my pizza.

I called back right away and explained that I thought I had been given the wrong pizza and they explained to me that no, the deep dish pizza is listed on their website as coming with all these toppings. For one, I didn’t go on their website, I called in straight from Google, and two, anybody that has ordered a deep dish pizza in their life knows that the standard is cheese only. As a Chicago native, I know that any deep dish pizza comes with cheese as the only topping, unless you choose to add other toppings.

I explained this very respectfully to the boy on the phone, and asked if I could just have a new pizza or a refund (paid cash). I told him I do not eat sausage, and that I was totally shocked to find sausage on my pizza, and that this pizza was not what I had expected, as someone who has ordered many deep dish pizzas in my life. He said they could not make me a new pizza since they were now closed, and they could not refund me either. All that he said he could do was to give me $5 off my next pizza.

The boy I was speaking to was respectful, but almost trying to blame it on me because he said that their menu on their website listed these other toppings on the deep dish pizza. I respectfully explained that any deep dish I’ve ever ordered comes with cheese only, and that I called them straight from google rather than looking at their website because I knew exactly what I wanted. I just paid around 50$ with tip for this pizza that I can’t even eat.

I offered to bring the pizza back for a refund, since I literally am not going to eat it and I wouldn’t have paid for it if I had known it had other toppings on it. They said no, there was nothing they could do except take my phone number and pass it along to the manager.

This situation is frustrating because I paid for something that was other than I ordered, I asked for a pineapple deep dish pizza and got a pizza loaded with sausage and a bunch of toppings I didn’t want and am unable to receive my money back. Any credit card company would give me my money back, but since I paid cash my money is basically being...

Highlight of our experience: Diagram of female reproductive organs included with our handwritten refund check, after owner failed to refund our money directly. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions on what the message behind that was supposed to be and the character of the man who sent it, because who doesn’t appreciate a little sexism with their targeted harassment, but I believe we can universally agree that it is unacceptable of any business owner.

Under new management, and unfortunately it bears no resemblance to the BPK we’ve been dining at for the last two years.

  1. The vegan pizzas now come equipped with cheap pre-made “meats”, rather than the fresh, in-house, hand-made options we came to love.
  2. The dough recipe had to have been altered what with its consistency and flavor of cardboard.
  3. Our order took 5 hours (FIVE HOURS!) to arrive. Not an exaggeration.
  4. When we called to inquire about the suspicious vegan pepperoni which resembled real pepperoni and the obnoxiously late order, their new manager was seemingly unknowledgeable and unsympathetic (to put it lightly) to our displeasure in the situation, but eventually offered a refund.
  5. The next day we received a call from the new owner stating we were banned from the restaurant. The manager alleged my husband cursed at her (not true, but with no plans to return, not that big of a deal). 6)When our refund didn’t arrive in our account as promised we were forced to call the owner again, and he threatened to call the police if my husband came to the restaurant, after my husband offered to come to the restaurant to collect a check.
  6. Weeks later we have received a check in the mail (haven’t confirmed if it will actually deposit), and inside the envelope was an extra sheet of paper showing a medical diagram of what I can only politely describe as female reproductive organs.

With so many pizza options in Bend, there’s no reason to attempt this sub-pat pizza. RIP what used to be the best pizza...

Since discovering I have gluten and dairy allergies just over a year ago I have had a very difficult time finding pizza that’s worth eating. Most GF crust and vegan cheese just makes me feel like why bother, I’d rather just not have pizza. I had basically given up on finding a good pizza option for my restricted diet until I was advised by a friend who eats GF/vegan by choice to give BPK a shot, and boy am I glad I did.

The first time I ordered I was actually so shocked by how good it was that I was certain that I was mistakenly given normal crust/cheese and that I would be suffering later on. But no, it is just legitimately amazing gluten free crust and dairy free cheese. I’ve now ordered from them probably a dozen times and every time it has been great! They are also great with special requests, such as extra cook time on the crust. Sure it’s a little pricey, but it’s not much more expensive than any other local pizza places in Central Oregon. Have even shared this amazing gluten free vegan pizza with others who don’t have my same dietary restrictions and the unanimous consensus is that they wouldn’t have even known it wasn’t normal pizza if I hadn’t said anything.

I see lots of bad reviews from the past and don’t know if something is different now or what, but to my fellow gluten free/dairy free humans I highly suggest you ignore all that negativity and give BPK a shot. So glad I am able to enjoy pizza again without suffering for it later.

Thanks Bend Pizza Kitchen, keep up...
