My fiance and I tried this place tonight for the first time. It was absolutely outstanding. The portion sizes were huge too. Here's the run down...
His order: Half slab of ribs w/ mac n cheese and fries.
What he thought about it:
He actually used a few choice words when explaining how good it was. He loved it! He said the ribs had a little bit of fat but nothing out of the norm. The sauce was so good with a nice smoky flavor and the ribs had just the right char on them. The fries were great. He did say the Mac n cheese was a tad dry but it tasted really good.
My order: Catfish dinner w/ bread, fries, and greens ($1 up charge for greens).
My thoughts: Insanly delicious! I'm from Southern California and in my opinion, there's no better place besides Louisiana to get great fried catfish and greens then in LA-at least I haven't found it until tonight! The catfish was perfectly seasoned and the breading was crisp without tasting like they were cooked in burnt oil. I'm still drooling over it. The greens were so good with just the right amount of kick to them. The spicier the better for me so if it was just right for me and you're not a fan of spice, they may be too spicy for you. The only neg were that there were a lot of stems in them but I just took them out and enjoyed the greens. The fries were a tad to greasy for my taste but the flavor was on point.
We ordered for pick up and we were told it would be 10-15 min. My fiance got there within 20 and the food was ready to go. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and welcoming.
We will absolutely continue to go to Berea Smokehouse and I encourage you to try it too. You won't be sorry!
