Maya Restaurant: A Mixed Bag of Mexican Fare Nestled in the heart of Berea, Ohio, Maya Restaurant beckons diners with promises of cozy ambiance and authentic Mexican cuisine. In this review, we explore our dining experience, delving into the decor, service, and most importantly, the food. Ambiance: Upon stepping into Maya Restaurant, one is greeted by a charming atmosphere, adorned with cute Mexican decor that adds to the cozy vibe. Despite the bustling crowd, we were seated promptly, a testament to the efficiency of the staff in managing reservations and walk-ins. Service: Our dining experience encountered a hiccup in communication, as our server struggled with English, making it challenging to convey our dietary preferences for vegetarian dishes. However, despite this initial hurdle, the staff displayed patience and accommodated our requests, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction. Food Quality and Variety: Our culinary journey at Maya Restaurant commenced with a selection of dishes including Nachos, Enchiladas, and Taco Salad, among others. Unfortunately, the food failed to leave a lasting impression, with each dish falling short of expectations. The Nachos, a staple of Mexican cuisine, left us puzzled with the unexpected addition of cauliflower and carrots. Upon requesting a replacement sans these ingredients, the staff obliged without hesitation, showcasing commendable customer service. However, the novelty of the dish failed to compensate for its lackluster flavor. The Enchiladas, particularly the mushroom variant, proved to be a disappointment, lacking the bold flavors typically associated with Mexican fare. The dominance of mushrooms, coupled with a sparse amount of cheese, left much to be desired, failing to evoke the authentic Mexican culinary experience we had hoped for. One saving grace amidst the culinary letdown was the Guacamole, which boasted a delightful blend of flavors and freshness. However, it was not sufficient to salvage the overall mediocre dining experience. Conclusion: In conclusion, Maya Restaurant presents a mixed bag of offerings, characterized by a charming ambiance marred by inconsistent food quality. While the establishment excels in customer service and ambiance, its shortcomings in delivering authentic Mexican flavors are undeniable. Despite our initial optimism, the lackluster execution of dishes, coupled with communication issues, detracted from the overall dining experience. Regrettably, Maya Restaurant fails to leave a lasting impression, and we are unlikely to return in the future. In order to thrive in the competitive culinary landscape, Maya Restaurant must address the shortcomings highlighted in this review, particularly in refining their menu offerings and enhancing communication between staff and patrons. Only then can they hope to regain the trust and loyalty of discerning diners seeking an authentic Mexican culinary experience.

True foodie and Chicano from Arizona providing a positive review for others. I always check reviews when trying new places and most don't offer great reviews. I'm going to give my you my absolute honest review. My overall personal rating of this place is a 6/10. First I will start out with the the staff and establishment. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. The gentlemen we had was great, I never once had to ask for a refill. Anytime my glass of tea was half empty he asked if I needed a refill. The restaurant was very clean including the restroom which is always a big thing for me. The ambiance was great nice a cool not cold and not hot. The lighting was natural light from storefront not overwhelming from sun. I did notice they had shades on glass that can be pulled down if the sun was to much. Now for the food, I would say that it was ok not something that was great but certainly was not bad. The homemade chips and salsa were good. I asked for a hot sauce and was given the two on the plate. The light green sauce was my favorite. Very spicy and I believe the chili was habanero. It had great flavor and was spicy, my favorite. It also had a hint of cilantro another plus for me. The red sauce was a roasted chili, not a personal favorite but not bad. I ordered the number 7 combo that came with a enchilada and a chalupa. First thought was I never had a chalupa so I would try it. So here it is, the rice was nice and fluffy but lacked any flavor. The beans tasted like a bean dip, very whipped and runny. They didn't taste refried, almost had the taste of canned beans. The enchilada sauce was tasty not much a chili spice. The ground beef tasted like a something from a sloppy joe. The chalupa was actually really good, tasted exactly like a tostada. Topped with the included guacamole and green hot sauce it was the best thing on my plate. My wife ordered a chimichanga which was a bit different. It was topped with red sauce and cheese which isn't out of norm for some places. However, the taste in general didn't have the homemade nana taste. The cheese was a bit much almost to cheesy. Overall not bad and the experience was worth it. I was craving Mexican food and choices were slim to none over here. Would return and try other dishes if I'm ever back in the area again.

In our continuing pursuit to try local restaurants in the area, we wanted to try Maya. Upon arriving, we were greeted quickly and seated. The restaurant was not overly busy when we first arrived but filled in shortly after. We had our complementary chips and salsa moments after we sat down. Salsa was quite good and tasted freshly made. Menu had a lot of variety and it was difficult to narrow down our choices. Ultimately, we choose the chorizo queso fundido as our appetizer. It was served quickly with warm flour tortillas. Had a significant amount of chorizo inside, which made it slightly greasy but very flavorful. For my entree, I choose the chorio pollo. Food came out very quick. Chicken in the dish was very flavorful and cooked well. The chicken paired very well with the chorizo. Combined with the Spanish rice and black beans, rounded out the dish. Serving size was quite good and left very full. My wife ordered the fajita burrito. She was quite impressed with the steak. She was only able to eat half of the burrito and took the rest to go. Did not have any room for dessert but seeing what other tables got, the slices of cake were HUGE and shareable. Service was excellent and will absolutely be returning in the future.
