Dimaio's — Restaurant in Berkeley Heights

I came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday.She made a reservation for a large round table by the window. When I arrived, I noticed they have two entrances in the front. The door on the right leads to the DiMaio’s Pizzeria section.This is where you can place an order for Pizza, Stromboli, Calzones, Hot and Cold Subs,Pasta Dishes and more for take out only. The door on the left leads to the actual restaurant where you can sit down and be served. This is a BYOB which I love. I was immediately greeted by an our server I believe her name is Paola. She was very friendly and attentive. DiMaio’s has a good amount of tables for dining in. The restaurant itself has a casual, subtle and warm vibe. I found it very relaxing. This place is family friendly, and Wheelchair Friendly. They can also accommodate vegetarians. When you arrive there’s a few spots in the front, 2 handicapped spots, and a few regular spots with remaining parking in the back around the side of building. This restaurant has been around for at least 45 years. It’s has been a staple in the Berkeley Ht’s area. For starters some of us chose their Tomato, Cucumber, and Feta Salad. The rest chose their House Salad with shaved Parmesan on it. Both salads were very good. Hot Rolls with Butter were also put on the table. For my Entree I chose their Rigatoni and Chicken Alla Serafino-Sundried tomato, broccoli, mushrooms, peas. It had a light flavor and subtle components. One of my friends chose their Chicken Valdostana- it was served with mushrooms, prosciutto & Asiago cheese. My friend ate every morsel.Another friend chose for her Entree Chicken Marsala-mushrooms and Marsala wine, she enjoyed it.Another friend chose for her Entree Seafood Marinara-shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and calamari. Again, everyone enjoyed their meal. The food is good here. We found for the area the food was pricey. Their chicken Francese was $29. The Seafood Marinara was $39. The other thing I found interesting was there was a charge to serve our own birthday cake. $2 per person.We decided to let the birthday girl take it home and enjoy it with her family. We just ordered desserts we picked off their tray. They were delicious , but for the price they were small portions which ranged between $11-$13 apiece. That’s definitely pricey for dessert. Went with a large group. Food was overall good and portions were generous. My dinner was really good. One of my favorite pork chops of all time. Those of you that follow me know that is one of my major go to. It was thick cut cook and seasoned perfect and oh so tender and juicy. We got apps - calamari, eggplant stacks and the shrimp and sausage. They were all good, I wouldn't say stellar. The calamari was cold and just ok. Actually all the apps were cold, not sure if by design or they just didn't come out on time. The eggplant stacks were tasty but not special. The shrimp and sausage was good but oddly cold. Dinners were all served with a small house salad, which I always appreciate. Not sure why all restaurants don't go back to doing this. Such a nice welcome touch. The service was good and we had a very nice time. I would definitely go again but might choose different apps...

MUST READ This is my second food related review ever, so this restaurant is another needle in the haystack. I've been here twice before and my experience always surpassed expectations; but after my third visit I knew it was not luck, but rather a legitimate satisfactory restaurant with genuine, hard working employees. This pizzeria's efforts should not go unnoticed. Staff go above and beyond with every aspect of your short time spent in front of the cashier. As for the greeting and paying aspect: workers are extremely upbeat and give off a positive vibe. As for the product aspect, I walked in over two hours before closing time and ordered a single Sicilian slice....after I drove home and sat down to eat, I noticed they gave me two slices!
