Stop & Shop — Local services in Berkeley Heights

I am not sure if they got new management or what is going on with this store. I have been shopping here for the past 6 years since I work locally nearby and like to pick up things during my lunch. I am in there nearly every day and it just seems to get worse and worse.

The side door near the fruits and vegetables has been broken for a few weeks now with people trying to enter an exit at the same time Leaving the one door wide open for freezing cold air to get in.

There are usually 3-4 "cashiers" standing in the self checkout area watching you and seem asked when you have to actually ask them for help because of the weight or bagging issue and the machine will not let you proceed.

Specifically today at 1pm, there was garbage and predicts left near a few self checkout registers and the boy working self checkout didn't seem to notice or care to clean it up. Then, when I had an issue he didn't say a word, just came over looking annoyed and scanned his card and walked away.

Meanwhile it seemed a woman and a man possibly on management were right nearby as well and did not care or notice.

This store is almost always bare on shelves, yes I know many are, but this one more than normal. They haven't had coffee cups in months yet other stores do.

The meat aisle frequently smells like spoiled meat.

I think they need to take a real good look at what is going on at this store because it's going down hill...

So on May 11, 2022, I walked into the store around 10: 02 pm to get a few items. I’m grabbing some paper towels when I hear someone yelling in the background. I didn’t even pay attention or turn around because I wasn’t even thinking someone would be yelling at me……… Long story short, it was the screaming of this lady. I believe her name is Carla (not 100% sure) (mid age, she was “in charge” of the store on May 11, 2022) Angry…. very angry lady kept screaming……“Heeeellooooooooo, what are you doing? We’re cloooooose!!!!!” I was like “oh no seriously” “I don’t know, the doors were open, customer were still in the store so I thought it was open“ I’m just grabbing some things I needed last minute I said ”…. and she kept screaming at me “weeeee’re cloooooseeeee” I was like “how did I even get into the store if you guys were already close?” …… My point is that you Ms.xxxxx don’t have the right to scream at me the way you did. You could have just approached me and say “hey… I’m not sure why the doors were still wide open so customers would think Stop and Shop is still open, but hey… we are close; you can come back tomorrow to finish your shopping. That’s it!!! That was all you needed to say. Poor and RUDE customer service management. Extremely rude!!! I wish Stop and Shop management handle this store in a better and proactive...

I've been shopping here for years and I probably always will. I just wish the newer employees would get a little extra training because I'm getting sick of asking someone a "simple" question and being told "I have no idea." The best one was just the other day when I asked an employee where I could find pistachios and he said I don't know, of course, but then I asked him to help me find someone who did know and he said he was on his break! I almost fell over laughing but I didn't want him to think it was at all funny. The correct response would have been, "let me get someone who can help you." But that literally happens 3 times a week. So with the new renovations, I'm learning the isles on my own. And I do understand that it's hard for the employees to know all the new isles as well but hearing "I don't know" constantly is really getting stale. Anyway, other than the newbies this store is and always will be my go-to grocery store right around the corner....
