This used to be BLONDES PIZZA !! Oh my god such a shock to see it had changed names & owners... to their credit the 2 employees inside at midnight were very compassionate about the loss I was experiencing :-o.... The sign outside said same recipes same people new name So I knew I was relatively safe... they would at least understand the legacy they had. Added is a new huge 15 foot long drink case as soon as you walk in. Lots of great beverage choices, but sadly it’s directly in front of a beautiful old earthy mosaic of flowers & other botanicals. That’s pretty much a metaphor for Berkeley, Telegraph Avenue & UC these days::: cover up the old beauty with shiny stainless steel + sparkling LED light + overwhelm consumers with choices... but don’t get me going on how upset I am about that.... So onto the real point:: THE PIZZA: Abe’s is geared towards pizza by the slice, so pieces are generous. I got two slices of vegetarian. It was the only one with any beauty. But honestly the flavor was a little bland. The CHEESE had a little bitter aftertaste. The CRUST was so fluffy that it was like bread, rather than pizza. The SAUCE was a nicely sweet but not very tomatoee and didn’t have enough salt in it. The vegetables/TOPPINGS didn’t have a lot of flavor. Again it look beautiful ~ but I would give it a “B” grade. Whereas Blondies was always a destination place for me and had straight “A” satisfying pizza. I would give Abe an “A” for effort & yet a “B-” for “RESULTS”. Glad they’re there holding the space ~ but it’s so...
Read moreWent to Berkeley Blondie's pizza on a recent evening ordered a slice ,a few seconds later noticed a sign on the door that stated buy a slice and large drink and soda get a second slice and soda for free if you're with a friend ,so went to the counter to let the sales staff know I would like to upgrade my order to include a large drink so I could receive the free slice and large drink, the on duty manager told me that I did not qualify for the 2 for 1 deal because I was alone, so I asked for my money back for the slice that I already paid for, he told me he would not refund my $3.50 for the slice that was already paid for, after a less than fun conversation he finally returned my $3.50 and promptly sold the same deal to a group of students who were behind me in line, who's to say if I would have drank both sodas and ate both pieces of pizza ,or would have brought one home for the kids to eat or give to the wife who was at a appointment nearby ,the reason I was in Berkeley in the first place , my order was always going to be to go , I would also have not have dirtied a table, let alone two spaces saving them both time and money. Blondies you need to offer deals that are fair to all your customers both dine in and dine out ,are you sure that those who eat your pizza would not enjoy the food and return for more later ,left Berkeley without eating,Make...
Read moreNot everyone that goes there is a kid. The older gentleman was very nice and mature but the employee in the front needs to know you can’t just whisper “that’s the policy” by trying to force a older woman to act like a child that’s racist and discrimination. I know the demographic is mainly younger students but you just stumbled across an older person. And guess what, older people will escalate and make it worse because they are emotionally capable of doing so. You made me wait 20 mins while everyone else got their slice. You deserved to be called out honey. Sorry. Do better. Give people their food and let them live their life. They don’t know you. At. All.
And just letting you know I kept waiting to watch and see what you do. I observed and saw that you most definitely did it on purpose and probably do it very often. Stop being in your own head and figure out your life, take it out on the wrong person, this is one of many outcomes that will happen.
Just give me my pizza and let me go home 🥲
And you cannot force people to tip. If the reason for bad service is because someone didn’t leave a tip that is against the law. You want to be greedy then work for a...
