Sheng Kee Bakery #19 - Berkeley — Restaurant in Berkeley

I'm a fan of this Sheng Kee branch for its convenience as a quick and satisfying lunch stop. The bread here is fine - not mind-blowing, but very, very decent. I would disagree with another reviewer who says the egg tarts are no good... Like their bread, the egg tarts are fine, but they're not the best you'll ever have (for that, you'll need to travel across the bay to Chinatown to go to Golden Gate or one of their neighboring competitors like AA Bakery).

For a quick meal, I'll typically pop in to get one of their packed sandwiches (pretty cheap for something filling and fresh!). The Cranberry & Turkey one is my preferred choice. I'll also get a tiger tea to go ("tiger" means it's a mix of Thai tea and Milk tea) because it's usually super strong and will keep me awake for the rest of the day.

I also like their tea eggs, mostly because I never see anyone actually buy them except for myself... and so the eggs (they are hard-boiled and steeped in a savory tea mixture for hours) sit in the pot and become quite strongly-flavored. :) Yum. 2 for $1.75, though sometimes they go...

Mkay so I go to a middle school near bye and me and my friends usually get boba once a week. As a teen we don’t want to spend so much money nor do we not want to freak ourselves. We usually go to the boba place across the street or to the other boba places that we thought were cheap. One day we decided to go to different store and we chose Sheng Kee. We didn’t know the prices of the pastries or boba so we thought it would be 6$ like the reg boba we get a different places. When we got their we saw the prices and we were totally shocked a reg was less then 4$. Since the boba was cheaper then the usual boba we get we thought it would be bad, but it was good. 1 of my friends preferred it more then the other boba places, but I think it’s really good for the price. I get that Sheng Kee is known for the bakery, but next time I recommend you getting the boba. Also the costumer service was really good. The old lady is so rude and disgusting. The system crashed when i paid with my moblie phone. She blamed my credit card destroyed her system. The young casher also told her, I just tap my phone to pay and system crashed. She kept blaming me. Although there is a payment proof in my mobile phone. She refused to give me the bread because the payment is pending. It’s ridiculous, the payment always shows pending at first. She just kept blaming my credit card and she was not helpful to solve the question. I asked if I could pay with the other working machine. She said no, because she thought my credit card would destroy the other machine too. At the end, I wasted my 10 mins, got a pending payment and 0 bread. If the old woman is the boss, I hope there will be another bakery. If the old woman is just a stuff, the boss should fire her. She has no ability to address problem. She is good at blaming costumers and killing good mood. I would never buy anything in...
