This review is for The Melt as they share the same kitchen as Homeroom. I could not find a place to write a review for The Melt specifically at this location on Google.
I rated them low because when I went to their store (usually order through DoorDash), I ordered my usual Double Melt Burger with only the bun, meat, cheese, and their sauce. On DoorDash it's priced at $16.99, then you have all their other fees which is standard for that service. For some reason, my total for just that one burger was $30.85! I questioned the cashier to make sure it was just one burger and she explained, if I can recall correctly, that there's added fee because something about The Melt and Homeroom share the same kitchen, plus taxes, which somehow made me pay almost double the price!? I have never been charged an extra fee as big as that at a restaurant!
Their burgers are absolutely delicious, but not $30 for one burger. I feel like I was scammed or overcharged. I was going to walk out and go somewhere else, but I was in the middle of my 30min lunch break and just decided "just this once." I would really appreciate if I can get a clear explanation as to why such a fat fee exist! Definitely not going back there as that kind of price is like eating at a fancy fine dining restaurant. Way more worth going a few blocks away to The Habit or even McDonald's for a burger.
At least the cashier was friendly, place was clean (although they were only doing take-outs at the moment), food was great, and food packaging was very secure, but that extra fee really left a...
Read moreThe staff here is really professional, and really nice people. Which is sad because the offerings on the menu, truly disappointed me and my party, all of whom have been mac and cheese fans for decades. Both the broccoli mac and cheese with the bread crumbs and the Sriracha short ribs mac and cheese, are just super fatty, low on flavor, the noodles were a little too al dente, and the entire plate was just too damn rich, and filled with fat and starch, but Low on flavor. I was only able to finish a couple of bites of each, luckily we ordered Cobb salads which were delicious. The recipe for the Bloody Mary's, which I'm an expert of, was a little too salty, and not tangy enough. I suggest a makeover of the recipe for the Bloody Mary's there. Lighten up on the hot sauce, and add a little more lemon.
All in all I expected something that was a little more homey from homeroom, but I was left seriously disappointed. That said, the staff were super friendly, and chatty in all the right ways. Hope the owner gives them something more to work with.
Sadly, at present the reviewer cannot...
Read moreI choose this place out of pure luck for my family on a rainy day, my kid only likes to eat Mac n cheese she’s 10 and I noticed this hometown Berkeley had some interesting options for Mac n cheese so I figured why not try this place out. I got the chicken pot pie Mac it was absolutely delicious and everything I needed and wanted for a rainy day dinner, my husband got the kogi short rib Mac again absolutely delicious the meat was tender falling apart and slightly spicy but no so spicy it melts your tastebuds away. And as for the ten year old you can’t go wrong with just classic Mac she devoured it all. And to our surprise this place offers a great play area! It had all sorts of things to play with like a bright light on the wall, connect 4 (big version) and a giant table with paper rolled out and crayons to use for your imagination my ten year loved it and we must of gone at a great time because it wasn’t too over crowded (big crowds make my kid nervous) so having that space for her to enjoy while she ate was just an amazing...
