DO NOT ORDER FOOD FROM JWOK IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES, OR ARE A VEGETARIAN. They are extremely careless with such dietary restrictions, and have demonstrated very little concern for anyone with them.
I placed my order online so that the order was in writing, and could not be misunderstood over the phone.
I ordered two vegetarian sushi rolls, two vegetarian egg rolls and a vegetarian noodle dish.
My friend and I ate the egg rolls first, and my friend mentioned that he thought there was meat in them.
Then, we ate the sushi rolls. The ingredients were ground up/mashed together, so I did not notice they contained salmon until after my throat started feeling itchy (I am allergic).
I took a Benedryl and called the restaurant.
The man who answered, Jerry, told me that online orders are manually entered by someone at the restaurant after they come in online. He confirmed that there was an inputting error, and that I was sent the wrong thing. Jerry offered to correct the mistake and send me a meat-free order, or refund me.
I was deeply disturbed by the fact that Jerry was more concerned with convincing me that it wasn't his fault (even though his name was on the receipt), than he was with making sure I was okay.
I said I wanted a full refund and for the manager to call me, since the manager was not there at the time. Jerry agreed to cancel the charge, and give my message to the manager.
But the manager never called me, and the refund was never issued. In fact, the amount was modified. JWok charged me for the dishes they thought they got right. They didn't even have the decency to call and tell me they were still going to charge me. I have yet to mention in this review that there was a piece of chicken in the noodle dish, so I had to throw that out too.
I called and got Jerry again. He said the manager insisted on making me pay for all but the sushi. He also became extremely combative when I got angry that the manager had yet to call me. Jerry told me that the manager/owner, Jason Weng, only comes in at night ... and if I wanted to speak to him so badly, I could come in at closing time at 9 p.m. and hope to catch him then.
Jerry said that the manager/owner is almost never there, and that there is no one else in charge ... ever. Then he hung up on me.
I kept calling back, and Jerry would hang up before I said a word.
I kept calling and finally got a girl named Paola, who said Jerry told her to talk to me.
Paola seemed much more empathetic and apologetic, and promised to have the manager/owner call me. But, Jason Weng never did.
I ultimately called my bank and told them what happened. They investigated, then agreed with me and reversed the charge.
BOTTOM LINE: JWok never has anyone on duty who is willing to take responsibility for anything. That is very scary in the food business. And, JWok definitely does not think anything of the fact that they served meat and fish to a vegetarian of 20 years ... and, someone who is allergic to seafood. Don't order from here if you have any dietary...
Read moreAfter ordering from J-Wok for years, and having vowed to never order from them again on more than one occasion, I have reached the end of my patience. Several weeks ago after ordering from JWok, several members of my family experienced stomach distress. We were not able to definitively place this on the JWok food and, eventually, felt comfortable giving this restaurant another try.
Fast forward to last night (Sunday, July 1, 2018). At 8:45pm, I placed a delivery order and received a confirmation email stating that our order would be delivered at 9:45pm. At 10:00pm, we realized that our food had not arrived and tried to call the restaurant. Since they closed at 10:00pm, there was no answer. At this point we assumed that our food would not be coming (despite the fact that my credit card had been charged the full amount less tip) and we'd have to figure out some alternate plans (as we were starving by this point). At 10:17pm I received a call from a number that was not the restaurant telling me that our order was on the way. Since my credit card had already been charged, we were still hungry, and the restaurant was less than ten minutes away, I agreed to still accept the order. However, by 10:40pm, the food had still not arrived. I called the delivery person who said he was (still) on the way.
Finally, at 10:45pm, our food arrived. However, the sushi we ordered was HOT (not warm, but actually hot). We had no idea if that was from having been packed in with the hot items we ordered or from sitting in a hot car for who knows how long. Either way, we were not willing to risk food poisoning and set that aside. The rest of the food seemed ok, so we ate it. It was acceptable, but not great.
Now for one final issue. When I asked the delivery driver for my receipt, he had to go back to the car twice to get it (he first came back with just the customer copy, not the one I was supposed to sign). The merchant copy had already been signed - by someone else! This is fraud and is completely unacceptable. I deducted the tip, and noted that the signature was not mine.
The next day, I tried calling the restaurant twice, but no manager or owner was ever there (I was told that he'd be in "at 8 or 9 o'clock"). Finally, at 8:30pm, I went in (inedible sushi in hand). The woman at the counter explained that the owner was still not in, but did call him for me. After my waiting 45 minutes, the owner told the woman to refund the price of the sushi (which was a small fraction of the total bill and hardly worth the time and gas it took to get here). The woman then told me that the owner would not be in at all today.
This is no way to run a business and they have definitely lost...
Read moreQuality of food and service in need of attention! I often hesitate writing critical reviews. The experiences at J Wok, however, have encouraged me to comment on the poor quality of the food and the most unkind service found at the take out venue. For sometime, we have joyed the food, ambiance, and service at Sushi Junkie. From the folks working there, we understood that the same family or group owns J Wok. Under such an impression, we have tried ordering various types of food from J Wok. While ordering online has been fair, once at the venue, the reception, tracking of the order, and getting the food has been consistently not pleasant. We have had a young man and women and a mid-age person tending to our various orders, including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese foods. Invariably, not very kind service. In comparison to other Asian establishments, the packaging of the food seemed carelessly put together. The quality of the food has been consistently poor. Even a simple dish such as fried rice, which we ordered once, was not pleasant to the eye, the condiments were off, and the meet had the consistence of rubber. Well, we thought, as we placed our last order (literally), maybe Chinese or Korean foods are not their things, despite their advertising. We should stick to what we know is good. Lets order take out sushi. Again, the assumption was that the food would be as good as what we have had Shushi Junki. Nope, we were wrong. The picture below, depicts a 60 dollars order (seaweed salad missing). The food lacked presentation, it was packed tightly in one container, the sauce from one item shared with the other items, slivers of discolored fish... enough to say, we decided to take discard the food. I wish I could have something positive to comment on about J Wok. I feel that the businesses need to work on respecting their customers, serving quality of food, and contributing to our...
