Sweet Monster - Bubble Tea, Ice Cream & Deserts — Restaurant in Oak Park

Eh, I liked the milk teas and recommend them, but I had better rolled ice cream. Sweet Monster is only average to me and I only recommend if your in the area and craving it. There is only one size option for the milk teas.

It is located on a busy street, so parallel street parking is available on the block or around the block. When we arrived, (Sunday around 7PM) the line was out the door, but the line did move fast. They have the menu options posted all over the windows outside so that was nice to see what you want while you wait, especially if this is your first time. They have more menus posted at the table before your order. They have a variety of milk teas, rolled ice cream, smoothies, tapioca and snacks available. The customer service experience was just ok. They were busy when we were there, but the ordering process could have been smoother as the cashier couldn’t hear what I was ordering and then I didn’t want a receipt, but I wanted to know what number I was, and the girl didn’t understand me so I ended up just getting a receipt. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying. They were slammed, but they also had the music blasting? Maybe if they could just lower the music than the cashier would have been able to communicate and listen better? They do not offer seating inside so I’m not sure why the music was so loud. Also, If this is your first time and you’re ordering a drink or smoothie they have the straws to the left when you walk in, same thing with spoons for the ice cream. I recommend to grab it before you order. During our visit, no employee told any customer this. Maybe it’s set up when you walk in and should appear as common sense, but as a first time to the shop, we didn’t know and when we got our order, the employee’s didn’t say anything.

After waiting just under 2 hours for my single ice cream order...yes, you read that right...I received a product that really wasn't anything different from what you could get at the grocery store and one that I didn't originally order and absolutely no apology nor a thank you for my patience. Their website was down when I tried to place my order for a chocolate rolled ice cream -as is, no customization- so I ordered via GrubHub at 8:04pm. The app informed me that my order was complete at 8:24pm. With a complete understanding of all things in the service industry taking a bit longer these days, I was patient when the girl at the cash register told me it would actually be another 20 minutes (something, it ends up, she told everybody). The chaos of order tickets not existing and then having no rhyme or reason once found, the place running out of nutella making my chocolate ice cream order no longer able to be made, and then to having to speak up when the owner came in at about 9:30pm with his family when they only added to the chaos and confusion, found me receiving an Oreo ice cream at about 9:50pm and that was only made after I reminded an employee that she had told me she would make that for me as a substitute an hour earlier. These issues PLUS the place running out of both boba, sugar, and milk foam, watching countless customers being met with silence in response to their questions, foul language by employees, and cream left out on the counter the ENTIRE time I was there left me with a stomach ache and no apology to boot. Though I live right next door to this place, I do not see myself ever returning to try their boba tea out of fear of reliving that 2 hour...

Very dissatisfied VERY!!!!! I've always ordered from here since they opened and not once had they made a huge mistake. Yes I've bought from here before and never had a complaint. My only mistake was sending my sister for my drinks.I had bought 2 coconut smoothies and 1 tea with extra tapioca and jelly. They charge the extra toppings but don't put them on the drinks. They give me all teas when on the label of the cup says smoothie. They should either have more people working or be more attentive on what they are making. I waste my money on these drinks almost $10 for a drink because of the extra toppings but they are worth it. They should be the way they are suppose to be. I called and spoke with a manager and they said I had to bring them over so they can correct it another trip I didn't need to make. Which I did. I live in Maywood if they would have made it right to begin with I wouldn't need to go back. It wasn't one drink they messed up it was all three, I ordered at 7:56pm. They rain out of tapioca by the time I got there and coconut lychee so they should have been honest and said sorry we are running low to begin with then I wouldn't have just wasted my money on something thats half made and not worth it. Yes they did the best they could to fix it, but seriously smoothie=tea? And then not even the extra toppings asked for? On all three drinks? And my drive back? I would have allowed one mistake if it was one drink. People make mistakes. Just very disappointed and...
