Ok....I had visited this place many times before, and I'd never had a negative experience, until an evening in April 2017. I'm just posting this now because I thought about it again and am upset I never received a response from VBar... story below:
This evening I went to play Shadow of the Panther with the little money I had in my pocket. I couldn't remember which machine had the game on it, so I went to the game selection screen on each machine (except one, because someone was sitting there playing on it). Anyway, I didn't find Shadow of the Panther, so I settled for another game on machine #2. About five minutes later a lady comes in asking who cashed out her machine (machine #4). I respond, "um...I was just at that machine, but I didn't cash it out. I just searched for the game I wanted." She swore up and down that that machine was hers and that she'd had about $50 on it, as well as a sign saying she'd be back. She said she had only stepped out for a smoke and that someone stole her money while she was gone. Knowing good and well I didn't take the money (and that I didn't remove any sign), I continued to play my machine, but I was admittedly uncomfortable from that point on, because the lady kept going on about her money and cursing and said they'd review the tapes, which is when I realized she worked there. So I'm thinking, "good, they can review the tapes, figure out who stole this woman's money, and then she can hush about it." I played out the money I had on the machine, but the person who was on the way to review the tapes hadn't arrived yet. I REALLY wanted to stay there to see the outcome, but my money was gone (save 3 little cents), so I had no other reason to stick around.
I really hope [will not name the woman] watches those tapes and finds out what happened to her money, because I'm almost 75% sure she erroneously suspected ME, as she seemed to be somewhat familiar with everyone else there. I really, really liked this little bar, but to say that that experience was off-putting is an understatement.
First off, I don't care where you are, cash out your machine before you walk away from it, and this will never, ever be a problem. Secondly, I'd expect a little more class from I an employee of this bar, because I associate this place with class. I usually come here and get a glass of wine or a beer and always tip the bartender well. They usually are extremely nice and pleasant, and as I said before I usually have a great experience. This evening though was outright scary. The woman actually stepped outside the bar as I was leaving, and I was scared to look behind me because I heard her say, "Oh, I'm about to handle this right now" in a very agitated tone. I may be paranoid, but I was scared she was about to come after me!
Please make sure people cash out machines before they step away from them! This will avoid issues like this, and prevent scaring repeat visitors away from an otherwise great...

We recently rented the patio at VBAR in Berwyn for a very special and emotional event — the funeral memorial of my father. When we booked the space, we clearly discussed and confirmed in writing with the owner/representatives that alcoholic drinks would not be allowed at the time of our event. We also specifically asked if non-alcoholic beverages such as soft drinks, juice, and water would be permitted — and they assured us they would be allowed.
However, on the actual day of the memorial — after we had already arrived, set up, and were in the middle of welcoming our guests — management suddenly told us that no drinks of any kind (even non-alcoholic) were allowed. This was extremely upsetting, not only because it went against what was agreed upon and documented, but also because it added unnecessary stress to what was already a very difficult day for our family.
It is completely unprofessional and unacceptable for a venue to change the terms of an agreement at the last minute, especially during such a sensitive occasion. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I will never do business with VBAR again. The lack of professionalism and respect they showed us on that day was truly...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem in Berwyn! The drinks taste good and are well made, but specialty/uncommon drinks will cost you extra. There is no cover charge and it's relatively small, but there is good music! I was there on a Saturday, and they played Latin pop, reggae, house music, some hip hop and some traditional Latino music (merengue, etc.). The dancefloor is small, but it didn't get too crowded. There serve a "bucket" with tropical drinks that are really sugary/tasty (I had a Malibu rum and pineapple mix), and gave me a good buzz for $8/bucket! The bartenders are friendly, and are patient and generous wth giving water toward the end of the night (when you're trying to sober up...lol). I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a local...
