In the past this place was great, but last week I had a bad experience there. The place was empty, several waitresses standing around. We sat down and the waitress handed us menus. She came back several times to ask what we wanted. I couldn't make up my mind, so she asked my friend if she could take their order.... to which they replied "no, I'll wait until everyone is ready". Once the order was placed a few more tables filled up. She brought the order, and mine was wrong. I had ordered a side salad not fries. I brought that to her attention, and she said don't worry about it because the salad was eaten earlier, fries were on the house. So, I started pulling them off my plate with my hands and placing them on another plate when she came back and said "oops, wrong order" and took it back. I heard the owner say, " plate more fries", (because most of them were still on my table.) She then came back and said that burger belonged to someone at the bar and they would make me a new one. So now my friend's dinner is sitting there while I'm waiting for my food, so it was cold by the time mine was delivered to the table. The only compensation offered to me was a dessert on the house...and the owner said he yelled at the waitress for the mistake. Wow.... I was taken back by what went on. It will be a long time before I go back...
Read moreWhitlock’s is one of the best restaurants around. Their seafood and steaks can’t be beat and they have a wide variety of great menu items. My husband and I go all over CT looking for the best seafood and steak restaurants and, we have to say, Whitlock’s fresh seafood and steaks are just as good as the high-end restaurants, but their prices are better. We usually go there for their prime rib, which is a king size cut and is juicy, tender and delicious. The prime rib is only served on Fridays and Saturdays so we get there early before it’s sold out. My husband tried their rib eye steak last night, which was a special, and he said it was the best he has ever had. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that you get. The atmosphere is very warm, the waitresses are very friendly and they provide excellent service. The owner, John, heard us bragging about the steaks so he came over to our table to talk to us. He is such a great guy! We spoke to him for quite some time because we are big foodies. He was telling us about how he gets seafood deliveries every day so his fish is always fresh. We highly recommend Witlock’s. If you have not tried it already, I promise you, you will not be...
Read moreI went to Whitlocks today with 6 ladies for lunch. It was my choice as I had been there on mother's Day with friends and had loved the captains platter. This was not the same place I've been many times before. The food took so long we could not understand what happened. Two of the ladies had burgers which they could not eat. The special sauce that was supposed to be on them was barely there, there were no tomatoes and the buns tasted stale. Neither of them ate more than a third of them, one friend had her favorite grilled shrimp in rice which was a totally different dish than it had been, I had fried clams which were ok but definitely not like the ones I had on mother's Day. The other three, two whom had chicken wraps and one eggplant enjoyed their meals. We asked if it was a different chef. While the server was very nice, there was no mention of doing anything to make the situation better for the two who found the burgers so unappetizing that they didn't eat. It kind of left us with a bad taste...on top of the already bad taste from the unappetizing food. Unfortunately, as we do out often, we will not be going back. Sad because it used to...
