ALL OF THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE FROM YEARS AGO!!! Went to Tia Queta today and ordered "nachos especial" (with meat and NO jalapenos- I can't do spicy food. She laughed at me, but I really don't care.) and meat tacos to go. They charged our card ahead of time, and my fiance left to go get wings for himself while I waited for the food. It took 20 minutes, and the cook had to bring it up to the rooftop bar because the waitress was too busy cleaning tables and stocking beer to go get it (the place was empty). She seemed to be sick because she kept coughing all over the place- her hands, the bar, etc. When it arrived, she opened the Styrofoam boxes, quickly shut them and then gave them to me. I checked them.. The tacos were two soggy taquitos- no fresh tomatoes- but tomato sauce on the top, no cheese, just a mysterious white sour cream liquid, and the tortilla hadn't been cooked, as well as some sort of green sauce- who knows... definitely not the way it was described.. She looked at my face and said, "It's tacos" and I said, "These are tacos?" and she replied, scoffing, "Yes!"... Whatever... So I checked the nachos- covered in JALAPENOS- baked into them in the cheese and smothered all over the top.. I said, "I asked for no jalapenos", and she said, "Oh- they add jalapenos?" (remember- she looked at them... they are covering all of the nachos... she knew) I said, "Yes.. I can't eat spicy food." She said- "One second", took my nachos, and PICKED THE JALAPENOS OUT WITH HER HANDS!!! The same hands that cleaned the table, were coughed on, stocked beer!!! She didn't wash them- NOTHING! Then she looked at me, separated the nachos with her hands and said, "See- now it's less spicy". She closed the Styrofoam and HANDED IT TO ME. I was so disgusted and infuriated (these two tiny dishes cost me $20!) I just ran out- I didn't even bother getting my money back. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN AND I AM CALLING THE...
Read moreTia Queta has been a reliable mainstay of my dining experiences in the DMV area for years now. I've been a repeat customer there because of the great service, excellent margaritas, and fantastic menu. I personally believe that there simply is no better mole to be had anywhere in DC, hands down. Period. End of discussion. Their Mole Bueno is a classic Mexican dish you can get to try it out, but I recommend getting the grilled chicken tacos and asking them to add the mole sauce. They're very accommodating in that respect, going the extra mile to make your meal exactly what you'd hope for. Another item that is an absolute must if you go are the Tacos Al Pastor and if you prefer to have the meat without the soft tortillas, just ask for the Carne Enchilada dish. The Tia Queta margs will keep you asking for more or you can try the Iceberg (a pour of frozen margarita floating in light Mexican beer, quite the summer treat!) I would say this restaurant is less Tex Mex and more authentic Mexican with an extensive menu that includes plenty of seafood dishes. It's without a doubt a hidden gem...
Read moreWow!! My wife and I just got takeout and we were overwhelmed. We ordered fajitas, (chicken, shrimp and steak), chicken enchiladas, bacon wrapped shrimp and guacamole with chips. The flavor of the fajitas is out of this world. Everything was cooked to perfection and I damn near bit off my fingers. The bacon wrapped shrimp is outstanding. The sauce is phenomenal and the shrimp is cooked the way it should be. I hate when shrimp is over cooked. I’m not a big fan of enchiladas I’m general but these were amazing. Did I mention That the guacamole is out if this world? I love guacamole but this stuff is next level. I’ve had good guacamole from Rosa Mexicana and uncle Julio’s and they are both fighting for a distant second place behind Tia Queta. The icing on the cake was learning that it is a family owned restaurant. One last thing. I am 51 years old and have been to many restaurants. I’ve never written a review...
