As a new addition to this post after several years I attempted to return to harvest pizza, my son ordered a kids pizza with pepperoni (picture attached) six pizza slices, ten pepperoni (three of which were totally burnt). I don't know if a slice of pizza with a single pepperoni even deserves the title " pepperoni pizza".
I have lived in Columbus for nearly 20 years (after transplanting from NYC), and one of the things that I noticed upon moving here was the real sense of pride people took in supporting everything local, from artists, to institutions, to businesses. This can specifically be seen in local food, beverage, and dining experiences, and having many friends and acquaintances who own restaurants or work in these environments I have seen this first-hand. This is why current circumstances I find so shocking and saddening.
Recently, as the Covid infections number have increased in Ohio from approximately 300 daily cases July 1, 2021, to approximately 1200 daily cases August 1, 2021, to approximately 7000 daily cases September 1, 2021, I found it startling and confounding that some local restaurants have stopped requiring/requesting their staff wear masks.
Yesterday I walked in to Harvest in Bexley, a restaurant group where I have been a regular patron for years, and I noticed that while the staff continued to follow health department standards for head/hair covering while working in the kitchen (so that patrons do not get a hair in their food) both they, and service staff, seemingly no longer needed to wear masks to protect patrons from exposure to Covid (which could lead to sickness and death)?
“When and why did the no mask thing start in here?” I asked the young man at the reception stand, “technically, because of the open bar area, we are patio dining” he replied revealing that the intent of my question was obviously missed; it is not what one can do but what one does without compulsion that matters. I could not understand; how does it negatively effect the business if employees wear masks, potentially safeguarding the patrons and themselves?
As I left the restaurant with my take-out order, which had Local printed boldly on all sides, I couldn’t help but wonder why my Local neighbor, who I know personally, would risk the health of my 6 year old boy, who regularly picks up food with me? Is Local a one way street, where customers prioritize businesses effective health and longevity, but where little regard beyond what is mandated is offered in return?
As I visited Brassica today to explore alternative Local potential Covid safe dining options, Harvest can feel secure that while they also are still wearing health department mandated hats they similarly are not wearing masks, however McDonalds' employees are wearing both, sadly maybe it’s the national chains that have our local...
Read moreGLUTEN FREE PEOPLE, beware of asking questions at this place. It is beyond me why a restaurant would appear to cater to a certain demographic (allergies, autoimmune disease) and then allow the employees to be uneducated and rude about the concept. I have always enjoyed the food from this restaurant, but the one time I ate here vs. picking the food up, I got some crazy attitude from the waitress for asking if all the pizza toppings were gluten free. Everyone in my party's mouth dropped at her intensely hateful reaction to a very nicely asked question. As anyone with celiac disease knows, gluten can be found in a plethora of unexpected places, besides the obvious potential for cross contamination in a pizza kitchen. Look, nobody is trying to ruin your day by asking this question, they're trying to eat without getting sick. But, it wasn't just our waitress, every single employee appeared to be competing in a contest for Most Miserable, and I have no idea if it's a miserable place to work, or the person hiring just loves miserable people, but I actually gave this waitress a 20% tip anyway, because I assumed she was having the worst day of her life. I had to leave a review for all the people who can't eat gluten and might assume this place is safe. To be fair, I didn't get sick and the food was fine, but I don't need that negative...
Read moreI'm thorougly disturbed, hence the long review. I ordered a portebello mushroom sandwich which did not include an egg but I ordered an egg to be put on the sandwich. When it came it did not have the egg. When I asked for it they wanted to put it on the side or I was told to hold up the top of the bread and the hostess would slide it on the already cut sandwich. I was supposed to build the sandwich at the table. When I told them I didn't know how I was supposed to do that with the sandwich already being cut, the hostess who may have doubled as a manager, grabbed my plate, with attitude, and started to walk away. I asked her to wait and I would consider putting it together because I was hungry. She plopped the plate back on the table and it slid across at me as she began to walk away . She claims it was an accident and she didn't mean it.🤨 But it was apparent she was mad that I wanted what I ordered. At that point I then told her to go ahead and remake it. The sandwhich came back barely warm because they scraped the contents of the sandwich on to another piece of bread and slid that egg on it. The sandwich actually would have been very good but that was unnecesesary confusion when all they had to do was properly remake the sandwich from the beginning. Poor...
