I was recently diagnosed with Celiac after being sick for 2 years. I love blueberry muffins and was upset thinking I wasn't going to be able to enjoy them anymore. Upon a random Google search one day I found this gem. I stopped in around 9:30am, and there was decent morning crowd. The inside is very welcoming. I had no idea where to start and they could definitely tell so immediately I was greeted and asked if I wanted to be told about what they had. I of course said yes. Everything was very beautifully displayed on the counters and easy to see. Geri, the owner (who I didn't know was the owner at the time) walked me through everything. What did they have to my delight....The Blueberry Monster!!! When I say that this was the best Blueberry Muffin I have ever had, I feel this in my soul!!! You know almost like that first sip of coffee! When I got to the register, Geri rang up my items on her iPad and gave me the total. I believe it was $8.25 (I also grabbed a recommend apple pie bar). I forgot my wallet that day in and apologized profusely. They of course take Apple pay/Google pay so I attempted to use my phone to make the purchase. After several tries it did not work. Extremely embarrassed I apologized to Geri for making her go through the trouble. Geri, bless her, stated "It happens all the time, just pay me back the next time you come in." WHO SAYS THIS, these days??? I of course was like um no, no , no. Geri insisted and says, "It's okay, I can do that, I'm the owner." I was so blown away by her kindness. Geri stated she wanted me to try their stuff and to come back! I wrote my name down with my number in what I assume is Geri's IOU book (Again homage to her kindness) and took my delicious goods to go. The next day I returned and bought a few different items, paid Geri back and can definitely say I will be a lifelong customer. I cannot thank her enough. Please go here. Please try everything, and please be kind to someone like Geri was to me. P.S. Their website is also...
Read moreI want to preface this review by saying I GET IT, gluten free is hard to do. I also am under the firm belief that it is unfair for those who are NOT gluten free to be reviewing the quality of gluten free food as they often are unable to refrain from comparing GF food to the gluten food they eat on a regular— however, I’ve been gluten free (Celiac) for 20 years and I have big problems with this place. Let’s start with accessibility; It’s in the dead heart of Bexley, it’s ALWAYS busy. That’s okay, good for them, as long as you’re not in a hurry. HOWEVER, it means they’re CONSTANTLY sold out of all of their pastries by mid morning, unless you’re willing to get up at the crack of dawn, you will not have a full range of options to choose from. After several failed attempts myself to make it before this point, I got smart and ordered online— full range of options! I can pick it up! And I did, this leads to my next issue… The food is just bad. Their baking blend is incredibly grainy. Everything is hard. I’ve tried 6+ of their pastries and never been able to finish a single one because they’re just gross. Their donuts are okay, but there’s better I can find in freezer section of Walmart. Their cinnamon rolls are truly inedible, grainy, rock solid, even after reheating in my oven. I have given this bakery many chances over my 4 years in Columbus and truly have never been satisfied, ESPECIALLY for what they’re charging! Now for what it’s worth, the workers are always very friendly, the location is lovely, and the atmosphere inside the establishment is great. But these things alone obviously do not make up for the lack of quality in the actual service they’re providing. If you’re truly gluten free, know there is BETTER in Columbus for the same...

Cherbourg Bakery has a dear place in my heart. When I began visiting Geri and her crew, I would order coffee and a savory square of egg strata, or one of Cherbourg's divine cinnamon and sugar doughnuts, or a s'more brownie (OMG), or blueberry muffin or chocolate doughnut. Over the years, I have since befriended the majority of the staff. Once upon a time, I would pick up 3 dozen eggs and Hartzler's Non-Homogenized Whole Milk. Once upon a time, I was a frequent customer; now, my visits are occasional. Times change, but the satisfaction of Cherbourg's gluten-free treats does not.
This morning I had the pleasure of savoring one of Cherbourg's doughnuts. I shook my Hartzler's, pushed the top off, stuck a knife in, to clear the cream from the top. I took this cream and applied it to the top of my cup, poured the milk, broke a morsel off my doughnut, and swiped the cream off the cup with said cinnamon and sugar doughnut. I repeated these steps until the cup was cream free. It was a visceral experience. Heavenly. It was so delicious, I had to type this about it. It was THAT satisfying. That doughnut.
I have not visited Cherbourg's Cincinnati location. I'm sure it is...
