Oakside is an absolute delight for anyone visiting big bear. They are perfect for an intimate couples dinner, family friendly, pet friendly and perfect for gatherings. I usually only visit here as a couple since this is our favorite place to come for daytenight. I find this is one of the only places with an extensive upscale style cuisine hidden in a casual setting. A fairly large cocktail menu and generous portion size for the appetizers alone make for a perfect place to gather. They offer outdoor, indoor and an upper deck lounge for your dining experience. One of my favorite features about dining here in the evening is being able to sit around the fire side table with a great drink, meal or dessert. When it comes to the food this place does not lack in flavor and has something to offer for anyone regardless of your dietary restrictions. I have celiac and sea food allergies and they are very accomodating which is very important for diners like myself. Although I come here mainly for their unique and delicious cocktails and dessert their appetizers hold a special place in my heart. We like to start our evening with their roasted Brussel sprouts and onion straws. The Brussels are roasted to perfection and coated with a delicious honey Sriracha sauce. I usually need a separate side of sauce because I love dipping my tempura battered onion straws in it. If we do go for entrée items we opt for the Chicken mushroom ravioli for myself and my partner devours the Mac n cheese with added sausage and caramelized onions at an extra cost. Their pasta dishes are mouth watering delicious and bursting full of flavor. Your taste buds feel as though they to are jumping for joy each bite. My second weakness would have to be their giant meatballs that my partner and I often share. Please keep in mind portion sizes are very generous and make perfect shared plates if your having trouble deciding. If by some miracle you still have room for more finish off with my personal favorite, five layers of chocolaty heaven chocolate cake. I'd love to be able to guide you through their cocktail menu as I do consider myself a cocktail enthusiasts, but get weak in the knees for a good whiskey and their menu is extensive. If I had to choose my personal favorite would be their peanut colada and any of their mules. As always they are handicap friendly however my wheelchair doesn't fit in through the restroom door so if your unable to transfer this may be a struggle since it's narrow. But don't just take my word come experience for yourself the delight that is Oakside.

Oakside – Big Bear’s Best-Kept Secret (But Not for Long) I don’t wanna give away the secret because you fools are gonna come and take my seat at the bar. But in Big Bear, the place to be is definitely upstairs at Oakside. Warm and inviting, with the perfect mountain vibe, it’s a total contrast to the downstairs, which feels like Carrow’s from the ’90s (you’d never guess they’re the same place). So, when the power went out in Big Bear thanks to some wild winds, we went on a mission to find warmth—and what do you know, we ended up back at Oakside. Honestly, where else would we go? Let’s talk food. We’ve almost tried it all (okay, that’s a lie, but I’m pretty sure everything’s amazing). The bone-in ribeye? It’s basically a flavor explosion. The brussels sprouts? Even people who don’t do sprouts will devour them. And the baked potato? Loaded just how it should be—minus the dairy for me (sad face, but that’s on me, not them). As for drinks, I was eyeing the Prickly Pear cocktail—because seriously, its color alone made me want to be on a beach somewhere. $18 to take a picture with that beautiful drink? I’d do it in a heartbeat. Alas, I wasn’t paying, so I stuck to beer and wine. The Cabernet the bartender recommended? No clue what it was, but he probably knows—just ask him, he’s got the wine knowledge on lock. And then, the espresso martinis started flowing. Apparently, the power outage really threw everyone’s morning routine off, so what better way to recover than with a little espresso and vodka? Everyone who missed their coffee that morning was making up for it in the afternoon. We’ve been to Oakside more times than I can count, and honestly? Everything they serve is worth it. But the real magic? The locals. This place draws them in like moths to a flame, and the social spectacle is half the fun. I saw a total stranger take a bite of someone else’s pizza—and honestly? I loved it. Even better? I got that chick’s number so we can stay at her Airbnb next time we’re in town. When the power went out in Big Bear, Oakside was the spot to be. So, next time you see us there—say hi. We’ll definitely be back. 🚨Sidebar I’d like to formally apologize for clearly not taking any photos of this beautiful place or the people watching or the espresso martinis but hopefully my candor in this review has helped you to understand that you’ve gotta go to this place.

This is a nice place. The food was good to just ok, the service was slow, but good, the waiter was very nice, but very busy (although the restaurant was not busy at the time I went (3ish). We were hungry and all the food coming out of the kitchen looked very delicious. We ordered chicken wings (you get 6) for 13$. They were good tasting (habanero honey sauce), but they were just Luke warm. We wanted the cowboy fritters, but they were out (????) so we got the green beans. They were good, hot, crispy, and a bit spicy, just right. We got French onion soup. It came out good and hot. It was cheesy, gooey and looked good. But it seems they used regular brown onions, not sweet onions so it tasted funny but at least it was NOT salty. We ate about 1/4 of it and chose to take the rest. We didn't really like it. I got the most basic burger, and it was ok. The bun was burned to the point of bitterness. The meat was thick but lacked flavor. The sweet potato fries were good. My wife got the beet salad and said it was great! We took 1/2 the burger, and 3/4 of the soup home. We ate the burger later, tossed out the soup, just not what we expected flavor wise). The staff is very nice. Our waiter was nice, but working indoor and outdoor diners. The place was not busy, but he was busy, so service was slowish, not complaining, I get it. The atmosphere was ok. Not much going on, it's a nice place and often very packed (can't imagine why). Overall, I would give this place a second chance. Maybe just an off day for the chef. I would NOT recommend the French onion soup or the burger really. But I would try them again, maybe.

An oily affair with underwhelming flavors—especially if you’re vegetarian, this one might leave you disappointed. FYI — I am still waiting for the extra charges on card to get clear since Sunday noon. Food: We ordered the truffle pizza, spicy white cheese curds, and bruschetta, but unfortunately, each dish leaned heavily into oil rather than flavor. The cheese curds were misleadingly named—not spicy, just soaked in oil to the point that it dripped from the serving paper. The bruschetta was the biggest surprise—a thick blob of melted cheese covered what should have been a fresh tomato-pesto combo. We had to peel off the cheese to find the actual ingredients. The truffle pizza offered a slight redemption thanks to a faint truffle aroma, but still lacked complexity, tasting mostly like oily cheese bread. Overall, the food lacked depth and would not recommend these dishes. Service: Service was decent at the table with polite staff and timely service. However, the billing process was a letdown, taking three days to resolve an issue—which, frankly, leaves a bad aftertaste. Ambience: The setting is basic bar-style, with no standout decor or vibe. It’s functional but not particularly inviting for a sit-down meal, especially if you’re expecting a cozy or elevated experience. Pricing: For the quality and taste, the pricing feels unjustified. You’re essentially paying premium prices for oil-heavy dishes that don’t live up to their descriptions or presentation. ⸻ Overall Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) Not recommended for vegetarians or those seeking thoughtful, balanced flavors. There’s potential, but it’s drowned in oil—literally.

If you are a dog owner, please read! Had a very unpleasant situation with my dog yesterday at this restaurant. We got a seat in the outside patio. My dog is a Great Pyrenees, so yes, he is big. This blond older waitress very rude told me that my dog was supposed to be under the table (there was no way) or on the other side by the fence (even more impossible) just because of the fact that she wanted to go through on our side of the table. Everybody was going around us, but her! She said out LOUD that I should move him because “people were eating”. He was not bothering anybody, (the two table next to us were super nice and one of them even had a smaller dog!). I told her that it made no sense what she said and we weren’t bothering anybody. Then right away the front door girl brought me a “dog rules manual” saying it was order from her manager. And what they don’t know is that my dog is a service animal, he didn’t have his vest on because he wasn’t working at the time, but he doesn’t need any dog behavior manual! This gentleman from a further table approached us and said “I saw what happened and wanted to let you know it was not right.” This situation made not only me but everybody around me uncomfortable! All the other places around there we were treated the best and they even bring water bowl. I wish nobody what happened to me here. Here’s a few pics of how my dog behaves in restaurants and he even flies in the plane without any issue, but seating in the outside patio of this restaurant was too difficult for them to take. Just horrible service…
