Cranker's Restaurant and Brewery — Restaurant in Big Rapids

I first tried crankers YEARS ago, like 2015. I loved it then. I was a frequent vacationer in the area and crankers was a good spot to hit up. Now I live in the area. I hadn't been here since 2017 but I remember loving it. I've been 4 or 5 times since moving here in June and it's only gotten worse.

Pros: the fried pickles, sangria, and Greek salad are amazing. I don't drink beer but I've heard it's quite good.

Cons: they've been out of everything. My family visited from my former home town and I took them here thinking it would be good. Big mistake. Huge. I was so embarrassed. The meat was flavorless, chewy, and overcooked. The fries were cold. They were out of red wine and sangria. The fish is served bone in. I almost choked on a little rib bone multiple times. It was also exceedingly flavorless and overcooked. I went this morning and it was the last straw. I ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and corned beef hash. Another big mistake. The avo toast looked like baby food smeared on regular store sliced bread. I couldn't even bring myself to touch it. It smelled god awful. The corned beef hash... I tried. I really did. I was so hungry so I really attempted. I couldn't get halfway through. The texture was mushy, almost like baby food (noticing a theme?) With a few tiny potato chunks left in. Overly salted, over cooked, and mostly flavorless aside from the salt. Despite hardly touching my food I was charged for the entire thing. No offers to take it back or get me something different. It was poor service and even worse food. Unless you're looking for bar food appetizers and beer, I'd choose...

I’ve never received such horrible service. I’ve worked in restaurants for over 12 years and holy cow this was BAD. This place was not busy at all. There were only two servers working on this slow night. Our server slacked- she took too long (over ten minutes) to ask us for drinks and orders - And we sat for about 45 minutes untill receiving our food . First she came out with the wrong salad. We NEVER saw our appetizer we ordered nor she she apologize or mention at all whatsoever that it wasn’t coming. Our beers were flat- mine was extremely flat, no head or carbonation whatsoever. Our food eventually came- and once it did we waited with our food Infront of us for about 3 minutes because we didn’t receive any silverware. The person with me ordered the pulled pork dinner- which was just the meat and a potato.. since when does pulled pork ever not come on a bun? He had to eat just shredded pork off a plate!? I could continue nit picking but honestly I’m over this experience as it was so bad we left after paying our bill and still unhappily tipped 10% - honestly I’ve never left such a bad tip because I believe 20% was the standard but after completely forgetting us - HER ONLY TABLE- to go off and gossip with people behind the bar- I still was decent enough to tip even though I all god honestly wanted SO BADLY to leave NO TIP… We then left to order jimmy johns..

Horrible service and food. Right from the start the waiter was talking bad about the menu, saying dont believe everything you read. It was very slow as we went there around 4pm, i took forever just to get our salad, the waiter never check on us as we had to flag him down for refills on our drinks. Again we waiter forever to get our steaks, new york strips that did taste very good and my wifes was way under done, she showed the waiter this, and he agreed and made a comment that he would go make a comment on the steak. Her mashed potatoes look like they've been sitting around for 2 days and the cheese or nothing was melted. Or even really remotely warm about her loaded mashed potatoes and even the broccoli they put on the plate was just senseless and had no flavor. After waiting a numerous period of time once again, I was really irritated and just asked the waiter for our bill. So we could leave and then he brought it over. And then when we flagged him down again to pay our bill, he said he took off the loaded part of our potatoes off the bill and my wife stated; the steak should have been taken off as bad as it was, and I couldn't even eat it. And they did nothing to fix her steak. The waiter as he rounded, the corner said suck it. I have never had such horrible service and horrible food in my entire life. They are lucky they got a one star rating. As it makes you choose at least one star. I will never recommend or ever go to this...
