Muzzle Loader Cafe — Restaurant in Billings

A couple of days ago A Friend and her three sons took me and my Husband there to eat late in the afternoon. The waitress was friendly enough but the service was not good. Our food came timely and I ordered the Taco Salad which was at first sight was strange looking but I mixed in the sour cream n salsa and took a bite. Nothing about it tasted or looked like a taco salad, not even the tortilla shell. There was hardly any meat and a whole lot of the wrong kind of lettuce. I was disgusted and didn't want to have to pay for whatever it was they brought me. The managers reply to me was that it was made accordingly and that he saw it before it was brought out to me. He offered to take a couple dollars off for the inconvenience, but that is all he could do. I showed him a picture of the Taco salads they have on their website, which is what I was expecting to get. He acted like he had never seen the picture or the sight it was on before in his life. I took a picture of the salad I got from them. I'm posting it, so u can see for yourselves. Anyway I won't be going back there...

Second time here. We ordered carry out prime rib dinners ....the same meal we had on first visit. Honestly, it was totally different meal than the first time with very poor presentation in the to go containers. Food looked old like it had been sitting out for hours but we order at 6:00 p.m. Waitress said they were out of baked potatoes!! Food was just not up to par (prime rib too fatty), etc. We ended up surprised to see baked potatoes in the containers because we substituted order with mashed. Unfortunately the baked potatoes were undercooked, and they forgot to give us au jus which is a big mistake and no horseradish either. Even dessert was bad. Sorry but we did not enjoy! I was so disappointed because the first time we ate there together it was pretty good! Not sure what happened and my husband doesn't want to go back now. He used to come here frequently for prime rib too but he told me the food is just not as good anymore. Again, really...

I do not see how this place has a 4.5 star review. I will never go back. I went for the second time since moving here. This time I got the world famous chicken fried steak. Disgusting so over cooked, I couldn’t even cut it with my knife. It was a very thin steak, what you expect from a chicken fried steak, but this was exceptionally thin and was completely black on one side pretty much. So I ate what i could cut out of the middle where I found a few not so burnt spots. I’m not one that complains if the ethics and skill of the cook is like that then I don’t feel like getting another one would be any better I just don’t go back.

Previously I did their biscuits and gravy again pretty disgusting. The biscuits were basically butter with texture it just tasted like you’re eating a cube of butter. Both these meals the gravy was tasteless, bland, pretty much just flour out of a box mixed with water.
