This is my first time in the area staying at a great hotel and seeing so many great restaurants near my hotel. I was excited to see this one in particular Asian Cuisine restaurant which I was told the food was very good. I expected to have a great meal when I looked at the menu.

However, that wasn’t the case. I ordered my favorite meals, chicken with mixed vegetables and General Tao chicken. I was extremely disappointed with not only the taste but the quality and preparation of both meals. I had more vegetables than than chicken and the chicken appeared to be cut into very tiny pieces.

The General Taos chicken had so many very small and hard pieces underneath a few soft pieces which you couldn’t chew. I have never seen that many small pieces of rock like chicken in such a famous named meal. I wanted take back the entire meal and show them what it looked like.

But I am certain they knew exactly what they put into both containers when it came to my orders. There is no way a person cooking could not see this during preparation and cooking. Impossible and no excuses for serving such. They should have recooked both meals instead of serving them to me. I won’t spend my money there again. I also recommend you open your containers of FOOD before you leave to avoid the same...

I can only speak upon my own experience, but I can’t imagine how this place could receive a negative review. The restaurant is spotless, the young lady who served me greeted me so kindly and attentively. I ordered the orange chicken (which came on a beautiful garnish) And white rice. The chicken was clearly from a nice fresh clean walk and was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. The rice was the perfect consistency and piping hot and steaming. The woman was so friendly unkind, and the service was quick. I almost forgot to mention the spring rolls were very petite. (there was two) And perfectly cooked. The flavor was tremendous, and the crunch was satisfying.

I’m not much of a food critic I just like to eat

However, as a business owner, when I recognize a business goes above and beyond, I feel somewhat obligated to speak on it.

This is the best Chinese food I’ve had in a very long time and the service was splendid.

I strongly recommend this...

My wife and I just had dinner here for the second time! The first time we came here, we didn’t know what to expect because there wasn’t anyone in the dining room, but there were several takeouts. At first we thought what are we getting our self into but to our surprise, we think we finally found delicious Chinese food! I had the sautéed shrimp dish while my wife had pepper chicken, which was just like pepper steak but with chicken instead we also decided to get a large bowl of wonton soup. Everything we had was ABSOLUTLEY DELICIOUS and the presentation of the food was impressive with extra steps in garnishing! If you’re looking for delicious Chinese food this is your place! I’d imagine it won’t take long before everyone finds out about eating time in the colonnade off Highway 280 behind the Cracker Barrel and it becomes packed! The next time we come, we’re gonna bring a load of friends with us so that they too, can enjoy...

I visited Eating Time Chinese Food with my parents, and we were all impressed by how flavorful and well-prepared everything was. I ordered the Combination Mai Fun, and it instantly reminded me of the Asian dishes I enjoyed during my time in Hong Kong... perfectly seasoned rice noodles, tender meats, fresh vegetables, and that subtle wok aroma that’s hard to find elsewhere. What made the experience even better is that my mom, who is an Asian cuisine teacher and chef, absolutely loved it too. She praised the freshness of the ingredients, the balance of flavors, and the authentic preparation... high praise coming from her! The portions were generous, the presentation beautiful, and the staff friendly and attentive. We all left genuinely satisfied and already plan to come back. If you’re looking for authentic, comforting Chinese food in Birmingham, Eating Time Chinese Food is absolutely worth a visit.

Ordered General Tso's Chicken, Honey Chicken, Broccoli Beef, fried rice, and Chinese Donuts. All good, and orders come with rice. Update: As of spring 2025, what had been Black Pearl is now Eating Time. Nice remodeled interior, with a small dining room and a couple tables outside. Ordered takeout on a Friday night, and staff was very friendly. Food took about 25 minutes to be ready. Ordered steamed buns, steamed dumplings, and pad thai. Got a veggie spring roll freebie, too. All were very good! The dumpling dipping sauce was a little spicy (in a good way). The pad thai was more savory and spicy than traditional, with mushrooms and onions tossed in. They also packed our bag very professionally, with cardboard dividers/stabilizers. Great experience!

Shame to have lost Black Pearl to this chain. i just ordered my go to - Spicy Chicken and they have ruined the food, its no longer crunchy spicy good food, portions have been shrunk and the recipes have changed. no more paper bag (which keeps the chicken crispy) and you have to even pay for noodles in the egg drop soup. sadly i will not be going back EDIT: its not the same recipe that was used before, so the owner is incorrect in saying that its just the crispiness. the images are what the meal USED to be
