Eugene's Hot Chicken - Uptown — Restaurant in Birmingham

Today, Friday, August 14, 2020; I placed my order with Eugene’s Hot Chicken downtown Birmingham. I ordered from Waitr and they had already sent me a code on my email (TICKTOCK) to use to get my DELIVEY FEE FOR FREE! ( I love that) Now, I will tell you to always take advantage of the promo codes because you definitely save MONEY that way.

I ordered the Half Chicken Dinner Mild Hot. I had a taste for some good season chicken but spicy and good. 😱😱😱 OMG it was soooooooo Good! If you want chicken that seasoned through and through but keeps the flavor of the hotness then Eugene’s Hot Chicken is where you want to go, or order from.

Now, if your brave enough and want to go hotter than make sure you can take it and have a gallon of milk or water or better yet the Fire 🔥 Department on Stand by! 😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥 You might think; oh she’s just kidding, playing around. It just can’t be that hot. If you don’t Believe me then try it for yourself! Now, let me know if you made it! 😂😂

My pictures, I wanted you to see the containers that it came in and the size. You get 2 sides. I selected kickin collard greens and the cheesy macaroni. You get 2 slices of bread. The greens are seasoned and the macaroni I give it 3 stars ⭐️ out of 5 stars ⭐️.

Next, I ordered the Banana Pudding for Dessert! 😱😱😱😱 Yes OMG! HOMEMADE! (5 ⭐️)! You talking Good! I mean the WOW FACTOR GOOD! But, I wish they could have given me vanilla wafer cookies to put in. It would have improved to another level. I’m old school and everyone I knew growing up put so many Nabisco Vanilla Wafers cookies in it and so do I. You just heard the sound - Ummmmh! Lord have mercy it ought to be a law to eat this good! Okay! 😋😋

As you look at my pictures I wanted you to see that your food comes in boxes. The actual size of the container and even though the Banana Pudding is $4.00 that’s how small the container is. I think it should be larger for that price. But, that’s just me! You won’t go wrong with this Eugene’s. Enjoy and tell them FAYE DAY REFER YOU! 😊😊

Next time- Tuesday August 25, 2020, I ordered through WAITR again to Eugene’s. I just wanted some good Season Fried not to hot chicken. However, this time it was not as good. It wasn’t seasoned like the one above. I could taste the mildness of the hotness. But, as far as it being seasoned down to the bone where I wanted to eat the bone or suck on the bone; Nope! No! 👎👎 I was so disappointed! ( Wrong Cook)

My coleslaw had too much mayo and it just overwhelm the taste in a bad way. I give it a 2.3 rating.

The Skillet Beans were burnt. You can see in the picture. The blackness shows on the top in the corner of the white container. However, it really didn’t taste burnt, because it was so spicy hot and full of BBQ sauce. In fact too much sauce. I give it a 2. 5 just because they did try and it was okay. I give this order an overall...

As I was approaching Eugene’s Hot Chicken for the very first time, the scent of freshly fried chicken quickly came over me. After I walked through the glass door of this wonderful place, I was greeted with warm smiles from people who were sincerely glad I was there. As a first timer I was slightly overwhelmed (in a good way) by the plethora of delicious choices. The nice lady at the register guided me to choosing the meal that was perfect for me. I chose to get the Mild Three Jumbo Tenders plate with a side of fries. I was unsure if this meal was going to be just another average chicken meal like I’m used to having. My assumption was quickly falsified. The chicken was cooked to order and to perfection. When the chicken was brought out to me by a man with a smile, I knew right then it was going to be good. I cut a piece of my chicken and dipped in the house-made ranch. As I lifted the chicken up to my mouth the aroma of the freshly-fried chicken surrounded me. When I took the first bite I was in awe. It was truly heaven on earth. The chicken was tender, moist and cooked to perfection. The breading was soft, yet crunchy. The mild sauce that the chicken was covered in was the perfect amount spice with a little hint of sweetness mixed in. The perfect bite of chicken that I have ever had was in my mouth right at this moment. I was speechless. Next I tried the fries. They were cooked excellently and had a great seasoning on them. They were even better when dipped in the wonderful house-made ranch. All in all I would describe my experience as life changing. The fact is that nobody is telling me to write this and I’m not getting paid. This is just sincerity coming from my tastebuds saying that Eugene’s Hot Chicken is the best chicken I’ve ever had and ever will eat. Thank you Zebbie (the owner) for risking lots of money to open this place and for sharing your goodness with me. This place will change your life. It’s like Disney World..........

Ran back to my Uber and sped off, only to discover that instead of a chicken sandwich w/deviled eggs as a side, I was given 3 chicken strips and a side of beans with a half a slice of toast. And this was after a 25 minute wait. Chicken was decent.

*Aftermath: 3 days after I got an order that wasn't mine, someone tried to use my debit card to buy gas in VIRGINIA! The ONLY time that card was out of my hand was when I had to pass it through the window at this place. It is the first (and last) time this has ever happened to me. I can't say for certain, but I strongly suspect that it was skimmed here.

I'm very savvy about looking for skimmers at gas stations, and usually don't let the card out of my hand. But here, I had to hand the card to the person behind the counter. I really didn't think about it until the bank prompted me and asked if I was in Virginia trying to buy gas! They also used it 15 minutes later to buy cigarettes at a different gas station up the road from the first. But, I had already froze the card. But then, since I had to turn the card off, I had to wait 3 days for another. BIG PITA!

I live south of B'ham, and I don't know anyone in Virginia. The fact that the order I got wasn't mine made me think the person that skimmed my card simply deleted my order to do the skim, then just handed me anyones bag bag of food. The place was packed and super busy. The only other place I used the card in B'ham was a Waffle House, where I sat right next to the register at the counter to eat, and a Sam's club gas station south of town. I paid for my hotel room and my UBER with my CC. So that pretty much narrows it down to this place.

The food is good, but ... BE CAREFUL!
