Honest review. I saw all the stars and took a chance to give it a try. I bought the Philly omelet and sat down to dine. pros: it was well made, a good portion, savory and hit the spot. It was good. For the cons: Not quite like the picture as it came with only a single slice of bread and not multiple as depicted. Atmosphere: The interior space is very bare bones, a no frills simple kitchen. This actually appeals to me as I prefer to focus on the food quality than the restaurants image or branding. However the atmosphere was very uncomfortable, I came a little early, 20min before they opened and I think Petey wasn't in a good mood. He said to me "we dont open until 7:30" and gave off a very unwelcome vibe. It didnt bother me to wait, or the cold reception, and not even when the lady who walked in behind me was given a "goodmorning, what are we having this morning?" Lol, awwww i guess i didnt warrent a warm hello. Whelp.. maybe Petey needs to know you before he shows that friendly "welcome to Peteys, we would love your business warmth" lol honestly though it would not dissuade me from coming again even if petey cursed me for breathing if the food was more than just good. Im only mentioning this if your the total experience type and would appreciate or want a cheery or welcoming atmosphere while dining out. Final thoughts: I wouldn't go out of my way to go here for the food. Bottom line is the food is good, not to the level that some of the reviews are claiming but good. Petey is probably a great guy and provides a warm welcoming experience, maybe just don't go so early unless your...
Read moreI went on a pancake tour in Birmingham and saw the reviews of this place and decided to try it.
It is slightly confusing to find because it's in the office bldgs by the Embassy Suites/Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
Once you go in the bldg, you have to walk all the way down to the right to the end of the bldg. It looks closed, but you go through the door, and there it is. It was a man and a woman in there, and the place is truly unassuming and definitely a mom and pop shop.
I ordered the pancakes and sausage. I just wanted a single one, but they didn't sell them individually. When he told me the price, I understood why. I'm going to gatekeep that because I was amazed at how cheap it was, so go find out for yourself, lol.
They cooked the pancakes to order, and they were HUGE!!!! I was like "SHEESH" for that price. I didn't expect them to be as big as that. The crazy part that it came with eggs automatically!!!! That blew me away! In this economy, for all this food is insane for that price.
Luckily, I like my eggs scrambled because I guess they assumed I knew it came with them. The pancakes were good, fluffy, and heavy. The sausage was on the spicy side and Ioved it. And yes, they use shell eggs and not egg beaters. The pancake mix wasn't from scratch, but she did add milk and egg to it. The syrup is just regular takeout syrup, but the brand they use I really like.
Needless to say, I can argue they make have the best no frills breakfast in the city if you're simple. The price alone gives them the top spot imo. I will be definitely visiting here more often.

The food is Great, the service is above and beyond, and the daily specials offer variety even with their diverse menu options. This restaurant has great options with my favorites being the Reuben, Gyro, Cobb Salad, and the breakfast is 10/10. Hope you enjoy Petey's as much as I...
