I did not get a chance to eat at this restaurant, but sure it was packed with people waiting. These people were determined to order and get their lunch. That told me the food is good. There were maximum 20-25 people and one was eating. I waited at the cashier but only one man going around the tables. I was trying to figure out the type of sandwich place but did not see the menu next to the cashier table neither on the wall, but I saw baklava inside the case. Then the waiter approached me and said sit right here pointing at the table for 4 after he saw me talking to the customer who is only one person has his food eating. -Do you know what's good food to order here? Of course, he would say pointing at his own plate and said burger and fries. I felt that was not good wuestion. I am not a fun of a burger. I always look at others plate to give ideas what to order. I am visual. But when I saw baklava, I knew they were either Greek or other countries around toward east side of mediteranian land where the food taste delicious. So, I decided to sit, too. All tables were full including where I was told to sit. No music and silence was dominant like children waiting for most favorite ice cream. 4 guys sitting next table were talking each other wispering voice, and scrolling their phone up and down. I noticed they were just set down and waiting to order. I asked myself what makes these people waiting patiently. I saw.a man in his early 40s in charge of the floor who takes the orders, fill the drinks. He didn't look the type of a typical waiter would give you a big welcome smile. He walked the ground with sure confident. Still wasn't sure what was their secret. I started to look around and saw an older man an a woman in their 70s cook the ingredients of their sandwich. I knew they are the parent and son is the waiter. These two possible married for life and cook together with love and joy their special sandwich. I thougth I was in a right place to order my lunch after 3 failed attempts to order from other places. It was my work lunch break and didn't have much time. I headed to barbecue on the other side of the rail road. I couldn't even past the rail road, the train parked for hours. I knew it wasn't going to move. Because in the morning commuting to work, the long train was there not moving and still the same. So, I turned around to the Popeye, parked my car, but couldn't get in. It was locked and cairs were fillipped over the tables but only drive thru available. Drive thru is not my favorite either but lined up my car to order but only 3 cars front of me were the same 1st time I saw. After 10 min.wait I thought I should try the convenient store. That was a wrong move. After driving there and park, get out of car enter to store find out no food all trays were clean and dry. It seems they used to have warm meal. Then I went back to Popeye drive thru lane again. Still the wasn't moving. I guess they were cooking after the order placed. That is how I found the Sammy's Sandwich. It is at the corner of 2 parallel road joins together. Looks gas station but never was. There 2 businesses; One Sammy's and the other is mini grocery store with metal fence at front and door. Parking lot is almost full. Any how, after I heard waiter asking to the table what they want, I knew it is going to be a wait that I couldn't afford. I sneaked out of the shop feeling bad and didn't want to resent the owner. I said I'll come back tomorrow. I got in to my car and google the nearest Subway that I know what they have and no waiting. I kind of did the city tour and end up where franchise place. I mean I love local food. They always use their creativity and family recipes that the big restsursnts diesnt. Most of all I want to try and support local restaurants. That was my attempt to eat at Sammy's Sandwich place story. I know next time if I make it to the area again, I'll sure will go there at least...

I've lived over here near Sammy's for about 25 years. Sad to admit this but this is my first time eating here. I've been missing quite a treat, if I must say so myself.

I was in the mood for a great cheeseburger and had heard this was one of the places to get one. Everything was quite fresh, and the burger was hand patted and seasoned as it was cooked. For an extra $2.25, I decided to get my bacon fix on. That brought my sandwich total up to about $7.50. The fries and the drink, (though I opted for water ) are an additional charge. This is definitely a splurge if you're on a budget, but it's well worth it.

The burger was juicy, and the lettuce crisp. The onions were lightly grilled and the bun toasted just right. The burger could've been seasoned a tad bit more in my opinion, but it was still pretty tasty. The only downside, if I had to pick one, is that they close at 3:30. Which means during the regular school year, since I'm an educator, I won't be able to stop by until breaks such as in the summer or Christmas. Bummer.

If you're looking for a great, home-made, old fashioned cheeseburger, this is definitely a spot to check out. Be prepared to pay a little extra for it. But, quality is everything and you get what...

We stopped in today because we saw a post on Facebook. Well whoever posted was wasaayyyyyyy off... They only have burgers, fries, BLT, salads, and Pepsi drinks.... THERE IS NO MEATLOAF OR HAMBURGER STEAK OR ANY OTHER SPECIALTY DAYS! They were good but nothing special to write home about or to make a special treat... If you are in the area and don't want the commercial burger joints then I would suggest... Because they are friendly and give you good size portions, that you do pay for... They ain't cheap... And fairly quick, no matter how many folks are there... They are open 10a-3p Monday - Friday only. We got there about 2p and there was probably 20 folks there... 5 cops and 2 military and rest was a wide variety... Only 3 folks were working... Wife running register and helping put plates together, Husband was running grill, and younger guy was running fries, helping with register and all were cleaning as they went... Friendly folks that's why I gave them 5 stars overall because you couldn't complain about anything... Just wished someone would have not posted incorrect information and misled...

Let me start by saying it was a little confusing walking in for the first time. I wanted to place a carry out order and wasn’t sure where to do so. Do you go to the register? To the counter where people are eating? Do you take a seat? Not sure which is correct but I took a seat and was warmly greeted within minutes and my order taken. The food was done very quickly and the service was extremely friendly in this (you can tell) family run restaurant. The environment was clean but kind of what you would expect from a kind of “hole in the wall” diner. I would say it’s overpriced for what it is, I only ordered a cheeseburger and an order of fries to go and my total was over $13! That’s steep in my opinion. The cheeseburger was really good, my only complaint was that the bottom bun was really thin and soggy and I ate it immediately upon walking out. The fries were just OK, probably would just order the burger when I go again. At the price point I won’t go a lot, but the burger and the service were both good enough for a return visit! Definitely worth a try.

This place was just awesome! You walk in and step back in time 30 years. It’s a straightforward, no frills burger joint. No, there aren’t 47 different ways you can modify your hamburger. But with burgers this good, why would you change it? And you simply can’t beat the price. And the atmosphere is worth the visit alone. You got the father working the grill and his wife calling orders to him. Both as sharp as ever. The whole place just feels like where you want to get a burger. And if you haven’t yet, you absolutely should. One last word about the dessert. I ordered a piece of baklava on a whim. I’m so glad I did. First off, it’s about the size of your hand. Secondly, and more importantly, it’s probably the best baklava I’ve ever had. Anywhere. And I’ve paid far more for a much smaller piece. Make sure you grab one on your way out as well.

Sammy’s is a True Old School Burger Joint! Sidney Bajjalieh and his mom and dad own and run this joint. His mom and dad are still at the flattop griddle flipping high quality hamburger meat with a line out of the door sometimes. When you approach the building and walk in it’s like watching an episode of That 70’s Show or any thing circa 1965 to 1985. It’s an incredible Birmingham MUST SEE & EXPERIENCE! Family Owned and Operated since the mid to late 1960’s. The BEST BURGER IN TOWN!!!
