University Tacos - University Blvd — Restaurant in Birmingham

I usually wait until I have tried a place a few times before I review, BUT the Shrimp Tacos that had just a few minutes ago were Great. I am not embellishing this at all, they are easily the second best shrimp Tacos I have ever had. I am not sure about anything else they serve, but it is worth the trip just for the shrimp tacos. I added jalapenos and poured just a little bit of the salsa they provide (for the chips) on the Tacos and WOW.. The other food they were cooking while I was there looked and smelled good. I will be back soon to try other stuff. I was eyeballing the hamburgers they were cooking, that is what I will try next. The cook time on the food was about 15 minutes, BUT they were packed and the food is cooked to order so you will get hot fresh food. There is a small bar to eat at, or outside seating that is limited. I ordered to and left to eat.

ONE small set back, the parking is few and far between. I got there about 11:20 and there was not a spot to park, the other businesses around this place have bought up all the parking and you have to have a permit to park.

This place is fantastic. The decor is tasteful and there is ample seating. Great authentic Mexican food as well as Tex-Mex and American cuisine. My go-to are the al-pastor street tacos. They are perfection and come with a side of chips. Their red and green salsas are great but my favorite is their hot sauce which you have to special request. It comes in a tiny container and is extremely spicy and delicious. Their queso and guacamole are also fantastic and come in 3 sizes depending on how hungry you are. They even had horchata and hibiscus tea (aka sorrel for Caribbean folks)! My friends have tried their burgers, fries, burritos, quesadillas, salads and apparently they are excellent. They often have long lines during lunch but they take your order and bring your food to your table extremely quickly. I cannot recommend this place enough. I have been a customer for many many years, since back in the day when their restaurant was less than half the size it is today. This place is exactly what the name suggests tacos for university students.

Larger than average tacos. Double tortilla stuffed with your choice of meats. You get options from the top main meats. Chicken pork and beef.

Great location from what I can tell. (I’m a blogger blogger from Huntsville RickyHSV on IG) great ambiance inside with one of my favorite art pieces I’ve seen in a restaurant. The mural depicting the different types of cuisines from all across Mexico.

The final star is missing because it is my opinion that this taco spot is “too focused on their niche market; college students” and leaves a bit to be desired by street taco seekers or those more adventurous when it comes to taco experiences.
