Upside Down Plaza — Restaurant in Birmingham

The upside down Plaza is basically a dive bar with a long history in Birmingham dating back to the 60s in its original location and the 80s in its current underground location. The owner has been the same since opening and the bartender (Kimbo) has been there almost as long. There are six or seven pool tables which make it easy to shoot pool without competing against other patrons for the tables. The clientele is diverse, the drink prices are reasonable and the staff is cool. Periodically they have free pool Fridays where the pool tables are open at no charge. There's no food served but you can bring food in with you. The fun & friendly staff can be found at the bar watching Sports or the Big Bang Theory while patrons freely interrupt the casual atmosphere with their choice of music over the jukebox system which can be utilized at the jukebox or from your smartphone if you download the app. If you like a dive bar with a welcoming chill atmosphere then you'll probably love this place. The only criticism I would give is their pool sticks leave a lot to be desired, so if you have your own, you might want to bring it. There's also a water intrusion that was recently caused by construction at the hotel above causing the floor to be wet in the back corner near the rear pool table, which just happens to be my favorite spot =( ...Hopefully that will get corrected soon.

Update 03/13/2019: The bar recently purchased several new pool sticks and the water intrusion problem has since been corrected. I think it's also worth mentioning that they've started bringing in live music periodically. Didn't even get in the door! The Security Guy that sits at a desk told me immediately that I had to leave The Upside Down Plaza. This Guy Blatantly Violated Tha Americans With Disabilities Act & didn't care! Those were his exact words, "I Don't Care" what you say, or who you call...You cannot enter with the dog! I tried to explain to him that "the dog", as he put it, was indeed My Service Dog because I'm Disabled & My Service Dog Buddy Shepherd, by Law has the Rights to go anywhere that another person is allowed to go inside of a business, whether it's Public or Private, under "The Americans With Disabilities Act" of 1991. It's signed by President George H. W. Bush. I told him that I was going to contact an Advocate on Washington, D.C. & File a Complaint against "Upside Down Plaza" because of His Violaton of Refusing My Service Dog Legal Entry. We will see "Upside Down Plaza", Who is Right and Who is Wrong!!! I already know the answer! You are! I had to give you a 1 Star Rating, but I would have given you a Negative 💯- 💯-💯 because you should learn the Law and The Rights People Have. We popped in this week after a soft covid opening. Our group basically had the whole place ourselves for a while. Allen was our bartender. He wore his mask the entire time, extremely approachable, friendly, professional, outgoing and managed the bar like a boss. It’s a very cool spot under ground. Lights and tables are as good as you can expect. The wall art alone (besides Allen) makes this place 5 stars. It’s my understanding they do heavy medal but let us mix it up with some Trap Rap and Charlie Daniels. We also met some young hot chicks there that our single friend couldn’t quit drooling over. I’m not from Birmingham and was only passing though but I get the feeling they throw some really cool events and a lot of the locals hang out here. If we’re ever in the area again-we will definitely be going back-as long as Allen is bar tending, the decor stays original and it remains a non judgmental zone. 🕺 excellent place...
