WOW! Great Cafe--Delicious Food, Friendly staff, Cozy atmosphere!
While it was Indian Taco Wednesday, I opted for the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner , and it did not disappoint. Now, understand--this is not a fancy-schmancy uppity restaurant. This is a 'find a seat honey I'll be right there, six booths and six tables, all the locals eat there, and folks talk to you' cafe. In other words, it's a great little small town America diner... And with food this good, and portions this big, it doesn't have to rely on touchy feely fluff...the food and service do that. (Obviously, since they've been at this corner for almost 11 years, they must be doing something right...) Even at 2PM on a Wednesday they were busy, yet I was greeted immediately, had my drink in under a minute, order taken in three, and my meal at the table--steaming hot, fresh, and delicious--in under five minutes. And that was about the average wait time of anyone who ordered while I was there. Impressive, since there were two servers taking care of everyone. So, to the steak...it was a very large chicken fried steak, covering almost the entire plate. Fresh cut, hand breaded, nicely seasoned, and for chicken fried steak--uncommonly tender. The mashed potatoes and gravy were reminiscent of diner spuds everywhere...also great with the steak. And, included in the dinner is your choice of a salad or cup of soup, a vegetable (corn, green beans, pinto beans or fried okra are the usuals), and a homemade roll or cornbread. I opted for the roll...one of the best I've had in quite awhile! While this was enough food to need a to-go box, I enjoyed it all in one sitting, and of course had to top it off with a slice of homemade, warm pecan pie and vanilla ice cream. The waitress forced me to 🙂 and by forced, asked if I wanted dessert 🙂 My meal was very reasonably priced, at $11.39 for the dinner. And judging by the portion sizes of other people's meals, everything on the menu is a real value for the money. Pro tip: if there are more than three people in your party, just order an entire pie for dessert. You can thank me later. So the next time you're in the Tulsa area, make a short drive over to Bixby and grab a seat at Johnson's Stepping Stone Cafe, and enjoy a good old fashioned...
Read moreWant really good prices?? Like you got inside a Time Machine and went back to the 1980's prices?? This place is for you! The prices were almost shocking! Really good food! This is a small neighborhood cafe, that is dated and not as clean as a lot of places, but gives off "back in the days vibes". Even tho it's dated and needs shuffle Ramsey to come in and make it beautiful lol, the food, staff and prices are a win. They make homemade chicken and dumplings, I had the BLT and it was yum! It's $5.39 and comes with chips. YES you read that correctly.... Super affordable. I chose to add in- house made onion rings for an additional $2.99 and they reminded me of the kind my dad use to make. Very pleased with my lunch. I will say they add a $1 fee for a thing of ranch. I didn't know that and probably wouldn't of gotten it. My friend had a hamburger and chose to opt out of the chips that can come with it and she got the fries. I tasted her burger and it was very good! BIG sodas. They also sale homemade desserts and also peanut brittle. Cute little downtown Bixby with a couple cute shops you can...

I just knew that my wife would order the Indian Taco. I just knew it! Wrong, she went with the Fish Basket, one of today’s specials. I followed her lead. A $10.99 value packed basket of food. Crispy coated fries, a school of fresh crusty hot moist catfish filets, great coleslaw, an odd looking, but delicious version of a hush puppy and a cup of perfect tartar sauce. Generous portions. You probably can’t eat it all.
The ladies serving were constantly checking on customer needs, always greeting with big personable smiles. You will feel like you are a local and a regular customer here. The café is small, still packed with customers at 2:30 when we entered.
